Last week, Congress took two decisive bipartisan votes in favor of life – protecting babies born alive and condemning attacks on pro-life centers – but the radical Left in Congress couldn’t even bring themselves to protect babies who are already BORN or condemn violent attacks. It’s shameful.

Recently we told you that pro-life Members of Congress passed a law that would ensure babies born alive after botched abortions receive critical medical care and hold doctors accountable when it comes to doing their job – saving lives. The legislation, called the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, or H.R. 26, would require a physician to step in and save the life of a baby who manages to survive an abortion procedure.

Let that sink in. As we’ve said:

without such a law, there are states where legally, a doctor could allow a defenseless baby to die without administering lifesaving care.

You’d think that every Member of Congress would be on board with this, no matter what side of the aisle they’re on. But sadly, and infuriatingly, that wasn’t the case last week. The vote was 220 to 210 with only one Democrat in favor: Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28th). We can’t say it enough:

It’s mind-boggling that people with such disdain for the sanctity of human life have been making decisions that affect all of our lives.

We are demanding that the Senate quickly take up and pass this critical lifesaving piece of legislation. We will continue to fight for the lives of the unborn by standing up against barbaric procedures.

It’s painful to listen as the radical Left attempts to justify murder. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler’s comments about the Born-Alive Bill are especially ludicrous. From the House floor, Nadler (NY-12) said:

The problem with this bill is not that it provides any new protection for infants. The problem with this bill is that it endangers some infants by stating that that infant must immediately be brought to the hospital where in any other circumstance that might be the right thing to do for the health and survival of that infant or it may not. That is the problem with this bill. It directs and mandates a certain medical care which may not be appropriate, which may endanger the life of an infant in certain circumstances.

That is a blatant lie. The bill demands that care be provided, the best care possible, and then requires admittance to the hospital. No one who has read the bill could possibly come to Rep. Nadler’s conclusion. But that’s the point; he expects no one has read the bill and he can get away with lying about it. So here’s what the bill actually states:

Any health care practitioner present at the time the child is born alive shall—
“(A) exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age; and
“(B) following the exercise of skill, care, and diligence required under subparagraph (A), ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.

That’s pretty clear.

At the ACLJ, we are grateful for a new House Speaker who would never shut down such an important and imperative bill and who isn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with evil-minded people, because what Rep. Nadler said is exactly that: pure evil.

We have been on the forefront of this battle for decades. We recently reported:

Planned Parenthood and the Left have taken the battle into the individual states, trying to enshrine abortion into state constitutions. And some states have even moved to legalize infanticide. As we’ve reported, we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request against the State of California and Governor Gavin Newsom to expose a vile new law that could allow babies to die up to 28 days after they are born . . . .

The ACLJ has taken our fight to defend babies and uphold pro-life laws into  the states as well, facing off against Planned Parenthood and the abortion-worshiping Left. We’re mobilized on Capitol Hill urging the passage of legislation that would protect all babies, especially those who are born alive. This bill would be MONUMENTAL. The radical Left may be able to sleep at night knowing innocent babies could literally be left to die, but we cannot.

Last week was a big step toward victory in our pro-life fight. The House also passed H. Con. Res. 3, a resolution condemning the targeted violent attacks by abortion terrorists like Jane's Revenge on pro-life Pregnancy Resource Centers around the country. We represent many of these centers and while a congressional vote is a step in the right direction, we are urging both Congress and the FBI/DOJ to do whatever it takes to stop the attacks and hold the terrorists who are behind them accountable.

While the vote was bipartisan, including 3 Democrats, more than 200 House Democrats voted against condemning the attacks. The official tally was 222 to 209. It’s a shame that they support abortion so much that they won’t even condemn violent abortion supporters firebombing pro-life clinics that are just trying to support women.

In fact, quite the opposite. Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA,) Barbara Lee (D-CA,) and Diana DeGette, (D-CO) have revealed a counter-resolution that:

condemns all acts of political violence and affirms that all people have the freedom to access reproductive health care services and medical advice without fear of violence, intimidation, or harassment.

Yet, all three of them voted against a resolution that would condemn political violence and affirm the right of people to get medical advice free of fear of violence. Or was it just that the resolution that was up for a vote pointed out that pro-abortion radicals were the ones doing the violence? So, rules for thee but not for me . . . even when it comes to disturbing violence and the murder of innocent babies. At the ACLJ, we are doing everything we can to change hearts, minds, and laws – to save lives.
