This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the numerous victories by the ACLJ in 2017.

For the first time ever, the U.S. government has decided to listen to science and recognize that life begins at conception. This is a major victory for the rights and dignity of the unborn.

Abortion is killing, plain and simple. Astonishingly, nearly one million innocent babies are slaughtered – annually – before they ever see the light of day. Numerous studies show that unborn babies can feel pain by 20 weeks of gestation, yet the radical pro-abortion Left will stop at nothing to defeat efforts to protect and preserve life. Instead, these abortion zealots deny the accuracy and veracity of these studies, and in the name of a court created “right,” prefer to “error on the side of cruelty,” as innocent babies face the excruciating pain and death of abortion.

At the ACLJ, we have consistently fought for the right to life and the scientific principle that life begins at conception. We are at the Supreme Court in multiple cases defending life and pro-life public policies. And our efforts are succeeding.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently agreed with us by voting on a critical late-term abortion ban – the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This bill that passed the House is a common-sense piece of legislation that would ban abortions (subject to limited exceptions), nation-wide, after 20 weeks – when science has proven that babies can feel pain. With this vote, Congress is finally making an effort to defend the lives and dignity of innocent unborn children.

In addition, the government has decided to listen to science and officially recognize that life begins at conception through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) pro-life policy changes that are imbedded into their new HHS Strategic Plan, FY 2018-2022. This plan incorporates this scientific principle as an integral and holistic part of its healthcare mission here at home and around the globe.

These are major steps forward in the ongoing fight to protect the right to life. With your support, we can continue our aggressive fight to devastate Big Abortion and save countless innocent babies’ lives.
