This is the latest installment in a year-end series looking back at a few of the numerous victories by the ACLJ in 2017.

Each year millions of your tax dollars have gone to fund Planned Parenthood’s international abortion empire. While U.S. taxpayer dollars cannot directly fund the commission of abortions in the U.S., this has not been the case internationally.  This year that changed.

It’s a battle the ACLJ has been aggressively engaged in for decades.

Earlier this year, the President reinstated Ronald Reagan’s Mexico City Policy to prohibit the use of U.S. taxpayer money in foreign aid to organizations that either fund or promote abortions outside of the United States.

In fact, a much more expanded pro-life policy prevents billions in U.S. taxpayer dollars in foreign aid from going to organizations that promote or perform abortions around the world. This is a significant and expansive pro-life victory. No longer will your tax dollars be funneled to Planned Parenthood abortion clinics overseas.

Domestically, we’ve seen several other key victories against Planned Parenthood. In one case, Planned Parenthood was on the losing end in federal appeals court over Arkansas’s decision to terminate the abortion giant as a Medicaid provider, a decision that would cause Planned Parenthood to lose some of its public funding. We’ve filed briefs in similar cases, and we stand ready to defend life and defeat the abortion industry if this case continues on appeal.

Earlier this year, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow met with key leaders in Congress to discuss the need to defund Planned Parenthood. The Senate subsequently passed a bill that rolls back a last-minute Obama Administration regulation that banned states from defunding the nation’s largest abortion provider. With Vice President Pence casting the tiebreaking vote to send the bill on to the President’s desk, President Trump signed the bill into law.

Predictably, the Big Abortion machine instantly kicked into high gear, spreading its lies and the abortion distortion, calling these efforts “devastating.” And for their bottom line – their abortion profit margin – our efforts have been devastating. In fact, Planned Parenthood – what may be the largest abortion provider in the world – claimed that thousands more babies being born as a result of defunding would be a “disastrous consequence.”

We call it saving lives.

These are monumental victories for life, but we must remain vigilant until not another dime of your tax dollars goes to Big Abortion and until abortion is not just illegal, but unthinkable. With your support, we will be able to more effectively stand for the lives of the most vulnerable among us.
