House to Planned Parenthood: No More Federal Funds
It's a victory that would not have occurred without the support and input of you - the American people. The House has approved the Pence Amendment, which cuts federal funding to Planned Parenthood.
And, in the few days leading up to this critical vote, we heard from nearly 55,000 of you who urged the House to defund.
While this is an impressive win in the House, the focus now turns to the Senate. That's the next challenge ahead. It's time to once and for all stop providing federal funds to the nation's largest abortion provider.
The Pence Amendment cleared the House by a vote of 240 to 185. What's encouraging is that 10 Democrats understood that Americans are tired of financing the pro-abortion agenda of Planned Parenthood.
Ten Democrats voted in support of the Pence Amendment. They are:
Dan Boren (OK)
Jerry Costello (IL)
Joe Donnelly (IN)
Dan Lipinski (IL)
Mike McIntyre (NC)
Collin Peterson (MN)
Nick Rahall (WV)
Silvestre Reyes (TX)
Mike Ross (AR)
Heath Shuler (NC)
As you know, Planned Parenthood receives more than $360 million dollars a year in federal funds and in 2009 alone, reported more than 330,000 abortions.
We were able to mobilize nearly 55,000 Americans - in just a matter of days - Americans who supported the House amendment to strip Planned Parenthood of all federal funding.
It's important to realize that the battle continues. The attention now turns to the Senate.
You can still add your name to our petition calling on Congress to defund Planned Parenthood. Add your name here.
Let's build on this important victory in the House.
