Senate Must Hold Repeal Vote After Historic Vote in House
The vote repealing ObamaCare in the U.S. House of Representative is historic and reaches far beyond symbolism by reflecting the will of the American people.
The vote was 245-189 to repeal the troubling health care law. Three Democrats joined all 242 Republicans in voting for the repeal. The three Democrats who voted for the repeal were Mike McIntyre, of North Carolina; Dan Boren, of Oklahoma; and Mike Ross, of Arkansas.
Our attention now shifts to the U.S. Senate, where Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid has vowed that ObamaCare will not be put on the agenda. That's right, an obstructionist tactic that counters the will of the American people.
Most Americans understand that health care reform must happen, but the pro-abortion, government run ObamaCare falls short in so many areas.
The repeal vote in the House does several things. First, it emphasizes a legislative commitment to derail ObamaCare and creates Congressional momentum to get rid of this troubling law - either through the repeal process or by defunding the measure.
Secondly, the legislative action is just one facet of a multi-pronged strategy to defeat ObamaCare. In addition to the legislative action, we're moving forward with an aggressive legal challenge in the courts - working to have ObamaCare declared unconstitutional.
As you know, we've filed our own federal lawsuit in Washington, D.C. And, we represent members of Congress in filing amicus briefs supporting legal challenges by Virginia and Florida.
Now that the House has taken this historic action, we're focusing on the Senate where ObamaCare must be given an up-or-down vote.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell promised a vote to repeal in the chamber: "The Democratic leadership in the Senate doesn't want to vote on this bill. But I assure you, we will."
And Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) intends to introduce a bill next week that his spokesman says is "identical" to the House-passed legislation that repeals ObamaCare.
Our thanks to the more than 70,000 Americans who signed on to our petition urging the House to repeal ObamaCare.
Now, it's time to stand with us and sign our petition to the Senate - demanding a repeal vote.
Send a message to Senate Majority Leader Reid: listen to the American people - put ObamaCare on the agenda and give it an up-or-down vote - something the American people want and deserve.
