California’s Prop 39 is simple: show a government issued ID to vote. But that’s not how it reads on the ballot. Attorney General Rob Bonta rewrote the measure’s title from “Establishes additional voter identification and citizenship verification requirements” to “Prohibits citizens from voting unless they present government issued identification.” Supporters say the new wording is designed to scare voters away from a commonsense measure, especially since Prop 39 requires the state to provide a free voter ID card to anyone who needs one. The ACLJ just uncovered secret meetings between attorneys associated with Governor Newsom, the ACLU, and unions and senior CA DOJ officials just three days before the ballot language was changed. Californians deserve clear, honest ballot language. Sign our petition to defend election integrity!
