President Biden is reverting back to President Trump’s policy of recognizing the Houthis as a terrorist organization – only after the Red Sea attacks forced the Administration to respond.

When the Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea in November 2023, the ACLJ filed a FOIA request regarding the decision the Administration made to remove the Houthis from the Foreign Terrorist Organizations list in 2021. We knew of the potential danger that could ensue.

Fox News reports on the Biden Administration’s change of heart:

President Biden will redesignate Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis as a terrorist group — three years after removing them from the Foreign Terrorist Organizations list — in response to repeated attacks on shipping vessels in the Red Sea.

The Houthis will be placed on the Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) list, which will trigger sanctions designed to prevent further attacks on global trade in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, according to senior administration officials.

“These attacks are a clear example of terrorism and a violation of international law and a major threat to life, global commerce, and they jeopardize the delivery of humanitarian assistance,” a senior administration official told reporters on Tuesday.

Early on, the Biden Administration had been so focused on making deals with Iran that they chose to ignore the Houthi threat. However, the decision came back to bite them after the U.S. Navy had to shoot down Houthi drones, forcing the Administration to launch an airstrike in Yemen.

Last week, we gave you a brief summary of the Houthis and explained how they pose a threat to the West. Though they started out as a ragtag group, the Houthis have grown into one of the largest terrorist armies in the world – for example, 50,000 Houthis have been deployed to fight on behalf of Hamas. They also have more munitions than other groups backed by Iran.

Right now, the West is experiencing the effects of the Red Sea attacks because of the disruption to commerce. Oil prices will only continue to rise, adversely affecting the cost of goods. And all of this is happening because the Biden Administration’s weak foreign policy further emboldened Iran and its sponsored proxy, the Houthis.

In other news, we told you about the historic fashion in which President Trump won the Iowa caucus. What lies ahead for Governor Ron DeSantis and former Governor Nikki Haley as they challenge Trump to secure the 2024 GOP nomination?

The polls are tightening up in New Hampshire for two of the candidates: President Trump is at 50%, and Haley is at 34%. DeSantis is in a distant third with 5%. I don’t see him spending any money in New Hampshire, and he will likely look to regain ground elsewhere.

If Haley pulls off an upset, momentum could swing in her direction. Because South Carolina is next on the primary calendar, Haley could continue to rally support in her home state, where she was a very popular governor.

But the clear winner with the wind in his sails is President Trump. Add the additional support he’s likely to receive after Vivek Ramaswamy suspended his campaign, and the President is in a good position to secure the GOP nomination.

Finally, the ACLJ’s brief to defend voting rights is due at the U.S. Supreme Court tomorrow. We are in the final stages of delivering our vital brief to the U.S. Supreme Court. We will never stop fighting for your right to vote for the candidate of your choice.
