Middle East

I have just arrived back in the United States and put together a multi-task team to handle the legal and political issues surrounding the Middle East conflict currently going on in Gaza.  First, we have deployed in Israel our Special Operations Unit, which is reporting multiple times each day on the current military action as well as the political response from Hamas and its allies.  We have also mobilized our Special Operations Unit to assist individual churches and ministries that are in Israel by providing aid.

This afternoon, I will be speaking with Nir Nitzan who has assisted us on numerous occasions in Israel, including most recently with our Regent University program.  Nir is an historian, a phenomenal tour guide, and a lieutenant colonel in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF Reserves).  Nir will be providing analysis on our radio broadcast today.  We are also in regular contact with former Israeli Ambassador to the United States Danny Ayalon.  We met with Ambassador Ayalon while we were in Israel, and he is continuing to provide analysis and updates on the current situation.  Ambassador Ayalon will be our guest on the radio broadcast tomorrow.

Second, we have mobilized our Government Affairs Team because of my concerns over the pending UN Security Council resolutions.  Not surprisingly, a number of the states affiliated with the Organization of the Islamic Conference have put forward Security Council resolutions which condemn Israel and dont even make mention of the fact that Hamas has been lobbing rockets for an extended period of time into civilian targets in Israel.  As you will recall from my previous trial notebook post, over 8000 rockets have fallen in Ashkelon and Sderot in the past couple years, resulting in dozens of deaths and also affecting the national psyche of the citizens in these communities.  I, along with our team, experienced firsthand the impact that these rockets have on a community.  While we were in Ashkelon, three rockets fell and we were rushed into shelters; and in Sderot, a rocket fell which required our team to quickly mobilize to various locations.  I have included a full photo gallery presentation of our time in Israel.  Click here to view the ACLJ Special Operations Unit:  MIDDLE EAST photos.

The situation is intense, to say the least, and world pressure on Israel is beginning to mount as I expected.  Our position is that Israel must do what is necessary to remove Hamas as a threat.  We will be bringing you live reports each day, including experts from Israel to address the situation.  I want to assure everyone that our international teams have been mobilized, our Special Operations Unit is in Israel and has been placed into action, and our Middle East Director General Rami Levi is on the scene in Israel coordinating our efforts.  We will keep everyone posted.
