Israel & Hamas Extend Truce for More Hostages

Israel and Hamas have reportedly reached a deal to extend the cease-fire as Hamas frees hostages from Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Four of the hostages who have been released so far – a mother and three children – are clients of the ACLJ. Hagar Brodutch, along with her 3 children, Uriah Brodutch (age 4 when kidnapped), Yuval Brodutch (age 8 when kidnapped), and Ofri Brodutch (age 9 when kidnapped), will be reunited with their father, who survived Hamas’ attack on the kibbutz. We are eternally thankful for their release and that even more hostages will be released over the next two days.

Fox News reports on the extended truce:

Israel and Hamas have agreed to extend their cease-fire agreement for two more days, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry says.

Qatar announced the move Monday morning, and Hamas officials confirmed it soon afterward. Israeli officials have yet to comment on the development, however.

Hamas says the extension will follow the same terms as the previous exchange agreement, under which Hamas delivered at least 10 Israeli hostages for each day of the truce.

So far, Hamas has released 58 hostages, 40 of them Israeli, while Israel has released roughly 150 Palestinian criminals.

What a blessing that 58 hostages have been set free thus far and that more will soon join them.

Unfortunately, the same happy ending won’t likely happen for all 240 hostages. More than 120 hostages reportedly still remain, and it’s very possible that many have not survived.

But we are grateful that the worst has not occurred, which is that all the hostages could have been murdered. Compound that with the 1,400 Israelis murdered on October 7, and Israel’s tragedy could have been even more devastating.

So the work to bring ALL the hostages home is far from over. And the ACLJ is diligently fighting to ensure the remaining hostages return home.

We told you that we had filed on behalf of four hostages, through their family members, with the U.N. Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances. Since then, we have filed on behalf of six additional hostages (including the Brodutch family). We are also planning a trip to Europe next month to meet with international leaders to demand support for Israel.

We’ve really been working on this for a long time. Following the ACLJ’s meeting with congressional leadership earlier this month, the ACLJ had an unplanned meeting with representatives of Qatar’s Ambassador to the U.S.

During the meeting, my dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, really pounded the table, demanding that they get the ball rolling in freeing the hostages. Now roughly 10 days later, Qatar has successfully brokered the release of hostages.

Now we have a team going to Europe to possibly meet with Qatari leadership based on how well his initial meeting went. We will keep you updated.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joined the broadcast to discuss the emotional impact of seeing hostages released:

There’s nothing like the focus that is brought [about] by meeting and spending time with the families of loved ones who are held hostage. And there’s nothing like the joy we witnessed in these past couple of days to see these young children reunited with their families and to see all the joy that comes alongside the incredible pain that has been experienced by these families for the last six weeks now. And so we should all be heartened and encouraged by that.
