The total encounters at the southern border since President Biden took office are an astounding 711,784. In May alone, there were 180,034 encounters. The numbers don’t lie – there is a crisis at the border. As we’ve told you, President Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with solving this issue. Yet since being given that mandate, she has not visited the border once to see the conditions for herself.

Fast forward almost 100 days after being tasked with this responsibility, and finally Vice President Harris has decided to visit the border after months of being criticized for her inaction. However, she is going to the portion of the border that is not even the main problem zone – El Paso. Conveniently, her decision comes after former President Trump announced his upcoming plans to visit the border with Texas lawmakers.

So, the main question that Americans have for Vice President Harris is why now? And why El Paso? After all, this humanitarian crisis has been going on since January. Instead of visiting the border at any time in the last 100 days, the Vice President visited Guatemala and Mexico. She toured the country to promote the COVID-19 vaccine. She even hosted Texas Democrats at the White House when one of the worst places affected by the border crisis is Texas.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked why the Vice President chose now to go see the border when earlier this month she dismissed a trip like this describing it as a grand gesture. Psaki responded:

She [VP Harris] also said in an interview with NBC that she would be open to going to the border if it was an appropriate time. She said that after she said that, so that’s important context as well.

We’ve seen babies thrown over the border wall. We’ve seen known terrorists caught trying to come across the border. We’ve seen drug cartels at our border trying to sneak in millions of dollars of drugs. We’ve seen criminal organizations trafficking women and children at our border. Why wasn’t it the “appropriate time” then?

ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy and former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell pointed out the final straw that made Vice President Harris actually make plans to visit our border:

Follow the leader. She’s following Trump. There is no question that she is going because President Trump is going into the hot spot, going exactly where this crisis is, to highlight the fact that this border crisis is new. We had fixed the border in the Trump Administration. There is no question about that. Their rhetoric – the Biden Administration’s rhetoric and the Democrat’s rhetoric became unbelievably welcoming for illegal immigration and we’ve seen individuals wearing Biden shirts. The crisis has been made and manipulated by this team and they are seeing the pressure of the crisis unfolding and getting worse every single day, and they have to stop it.

Senator John Cornyn from Texas summed it up best:

She is nearly 100 days late and a thousand miles short. By ignoring the Rio Grande Valley, the busiest Border Patrol sector along the U.S. Texas-Mexico border, the Vice President is shifting focus away from the most serious problems of this crisis.

Even now that Vice President Harris has decided to go to the border, she isn’t even going to the right place. She is checking the boxes and remaining politically “safe.” She took 100 days to go see the crisis at our border. And in those 100 days, the conditions at our southern border led to a nationwide crisis. We’ve filed a lawsuit over the inaction at the border under the Biden Administration. We hope Vice President Harris will understand the severity of this crisis after seeing it for herself once and for all.
