President Joe Biden finally just visited our southern border with Mexico to survey the crisis firsthand. The problem is, they gave it a quick clean-up before his arrival.

As reported by Fox News:

Leading up to Biden’s visit, the Border Patrol union slammed the president because of reports that state and local authorities were ramping up detentions and cleaning up the migrant encampments ahead of the commander in chief’s arrival.

"El Paso is being cleared up as if nothing unusual ever happened there," the National Border Patrol Council tweeted on Friday. "Just in time for Biden’s ‘visit to the border.’"

The tweet was posted after a report by El Paso Matters that said "large crowds" of migrants had been detained in El Paso by Border Patrol agents overnight on Wednesday.

Later reports suggested the Border Patrol and local police ramped up patrols and detentions in El Paso ahead of the president’s visit on Sunday.

The question: why would the Biden Administration want to give a more secure image of the border than we all know is the reality? Could it be because they’ve ignored the humanitarian crisis for two years and gaslighted anyone who dared to ask why?

I hate to be cynical, but this whole border visit feels an ice cream cone short of being just another Biden photo-op. Especially now after his own party has finally begun to criticize his handling of the border. Streets of El Paso that just days ago were overrun with migrants and their possessions are now clean and clear. How on earth did that happen so quickly, unless it was done intentionally?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has been a justifiably sharp critic of Biden’s inaction at the border, greeted the President at the airport. He handed President Biden a letter harshly criticizing his border strategy thus far, which Gov. Abbott then posted on Twitter as well, even accusing him of purposefully choosing the wrong part of the border to visit:

Your visit to our southern border with Mexico today is $20 billion too little and two years too late. Moreover, your visit avoids the sites where mass illegal immigration occurs and sidesteps the thousands of angry Texas property owners whose lives have been destroyed by your border policies. Even the city you visit has been sanitized of the migrant camps which had overrun downtown El Paso because your Administration wants to shield you from the chaos that Texans experience on a daily basis. The chaos is the direct result of your failure to enforce the immigration laws that Congress enacted.

Governor Abbott is right – this visit is way too little and much too late. We need to see swift, demonstrable action to secure the border, stop the flood of deadly drugs and sex trafficking, and protect our national security. President Biden, that is your job.
