The ACLU – an organization usually fighting against what most of us consider traditional morals – says it is taking a stand for our country’s “moral commitment” and promises to “sue swiftly” over the new asylum rules.
On today’s broadcast, we discussed the statement released by the ACLU’s deputy director of the Immigrants’ Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union:
“The Trump administration is trying to unilaterally reverse our country's legal and moral commitment to protect those fleeing danger. This new rule is patently unlawful and we will sue swiftly.”
Yesterday we told you about the major new change to our asylum rules that would require most migrants seeking entrance through America’s southern border under an asylum claim to first seek asylum in one of the countries they pass through to get here. This change became effective today.
I said yesterday we can expect resistance and lawsuits, and the ACLU is the first in line threatening legal action.
My question for it is, what exactly is unlawful? And who is actually going to sue?
This is phony outrage over a policy that will actually help those legitimately seeking asylum. The U.N. refugee agency, UNHCR, also spoke out against our asylum rules, calling it “deeply concerning.” According to its statement:
“It will put vulnerable families at risk. It will undermine efforts by countries across the region to devise the coherent, collective responses that are needed. This measure is severe and is not the best way forward.”
No part of that is correct. This doesn’t put legitimate asylum seekers at risk. It’s actually about getting migrants who fear for their lives to safety sooner. By the way, the U.S. gave more money to that refugee agency than the next nine countries on the donor list.
We support this new rule and will be there with the Trump administration to support this policy.

Finally. The U.S. House of Representatives, after months of denying there is any crisis on the southern border, has finally taken the first step toward addressing the crisis they now begrudgingly admit is occurring. Granted, this first step is far from comprehensive—in fact, it is exclusively...
It’s beyond offensive. A sitting member of Congress just ignorantly and irresponsibly appeared on social media and compared the United States to Nazi Germany. On today’s broadcast, we discussed Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) taking to Facebook to say the detention centers at our southern border...
In a big win for President Trump and for our national security, Mexico has agreed to work with us to secure our border from the influx of illegal migrants, proving once again the threat of tariffs works. On today’s show, we discussed Mexico’s agreement to avoid tariffs from the United States by...
