Ground Zero Mosque Imam Invited to Appear on Jay Sekulow Live!
This request was emailed to Imam Rauf inviting him to appear on Jay Sekulow Live! to address growing questions and concerns about the Islamic mosque he would like to construct at Ground Zero.
Imam Rauf,
There is growing concern among the American people about your intentions and the wisdom of placing a mosque at Ground Zero in New York City.
The concerns and questions center on the fact that you want to construct a mosque on the very spot where the landing gear of one of the hijacked planes crashed into the building on this site.
Certainly, you can understand the feelings of the families and victims of 9/11 including our client, NYC firefighter and first responder Tim Brown, who survived the attack but lost nearly 100 colleagues that day. For them, the pain never ends. They consider this site hallowed ground and, like most Americans, dont believe this is the place to build a mosque. To them, it's insensitive. To them, it should be a memorial not a mosque.
Weve been vocal about our concern for your proposed mosque and we are sure you are aware of our multi-faceted efforts to get it stopped including a lawsuit filed at the Supreme Court of the State of New York contending that the city violated its own policies and procedures in rejecting landmark status for this building.
The nationally syndicated radio show, Jay Sekulow Live!,and the American Center for Law and Justice are formally requesting that you appear on our show. This is an opportunity for you to present your side directly to our listeners and for our listeners to present their questions to you.
There have been several troubling news reports about where you stand on important issues, and we believe our listeners and the American people would benefit greatly from this discussion. Some specific concerns that you would have an opportunity to address include:
On 60 Minutes, just days after the 9/11 attacks, you said that United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened that day.
News reports state that you have been unwilling to call Hamas a terrorist organization.
The Wall Street Journal reports that some of your letters imply that you support the destruction of the Jewish state. This quote is attributed to you: In a true peace, it is impossible that a purely Jewish state of Palestine can endure.... In a true peace, Israel will, in our lifetimes, become one more Arab country, with a Jewish minority.
What was your intention behind your statement that the United States has more Muslim blood on its hands than al Qaida has on its hands....?
While in the United States, you have stated that you didnt expect such a strong reaction to placing a mosque at Ground Zero; but while speaking to the Arab media, you said: Of course, we knew that [the choice of a site] near Ground Zero would make the place well known. This is what we expected....
These are important issues that are of great concern to the American people. Please accept our invitation to join us live, before a nationally syndicated radio audience, and have your side heard.
