USAID Official Orders Staff To Shred and Burn Documents
Listen tothis article
USAID Acting Executive Director Erica Carr ordered her remaining staff to shred and burn classified documents before Elon Musk and DOGE finish shutting down the agency. What is the Deep State trying to hide?
In a Tuesday email to staffers, USAID acting executive director Erica Carr called for an “all day” effort to help destroy sensitive agency documents at the all-but-shuttered headquarters in Washington, DC.
“Thank you for your assistance in clearing our classified safes and personnel documents,” began the email, which bore a USAID logo.
“Shred as many documents first,” the email continued, adding that staffers should stuff remaining classified material into designated “burn bags for when the shredder becomes unavailable or needs a break.”
Staffers were also told to write “secret” on the burn bags with a marker.
The email did not elaborate on why the documents should be destroyed.
Of course, one could have legitimate reasons for shredding and burning documents before a business closes its doors. At the same time, the USAID staff must be careful in destroying the documents because of possible legal ramifications.
The Federal Records Act exists so government documents remain the property of the American people to ensure transparency and oversight. Such documents must be preserved and made public records.
Also, even some on the far Left filed a motion in court to keep the documents from being destroyed: “Defendants are, as this motion is being filed, destroying documents with potential pertinence to this litigation. . . . Although Plaintiffs do not know at this moment which records are being destroyed, the destruction of records may severely undermine the agency’s ability to function.” The Left doesn’t want important documents destroyed that USAID could use if it were to remain open.
So no wonder alarm bells go off when USAID’s Acting Executive Director – someone with long Deep State ties – sends out an email telling employees that it will be an “all-day event,” and when the shredder gets backed up, start putting stuff in burn bags.
Erica Carr has a history of being a Deep State official. She worked at the Office of Personnel Management from 2007–2009, basically the federal government’s HR department. During President Obama’s first year in office, Carr moved over to USAID. In 2021, President Biden appointed Carr as USAID Executive Secretary, so she’s been in USAID leadership for a while – further raising red flags about her directive to destroy evidence.
How about we don’t destroy the records, and let’s all review them? Surely that could be a bipartisan effort since both sides of the aisle are voicing concerns about USAID’s mass shredding day.
Because of the alarming news of USAID’s actions, the ACLJ is filing an emergency FOIA request to USAID to stop the destruction of evidence. This will likely quickly become a lawsuit as the Deep State will refuse to comply.
Unlike an agency’s documents that can apparently all be destroyed in a single day, fixing an economy takes much longer. Most conservatives likely understood that undoing the damage of the Biden Administration couldn’t happen overnight.
That being said, the latest inflation report was released, and most expected inflation to be over 3%; however, it was down to 2.8% in February. ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison reacted to the news:
So core inflation, for instance, slowed to the lowest reading since April 2021. If you look at shelter costs, for instance, that was the smallest increase since December 2021, and thirdly, inflation-adjusted wage increases rose. So, in real terms, during the first full month of the Trump Administration, the economy is actually doing better than expected. . . .
To point out that the inflation rate is coming down is important for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that that may lead to a reduction in interest rates. As interest rates come down, housing costs come down, and people can afford to purchase another house or a new house, perhaps for the first time in their working lives.
So the 2.8% inflation report is a minor win for President Trump. The economy is slowly rebounding and will hopefully continue on the same trajectory.
Though many in the media are predicting gloom and doom from the tariffs that Trump has imposed, it should incentivize more manufacturers to build products stateside, thereby lowering prices long-term.
