DOGE Reveals Pentagon Investigation
Listen tothis article
The Department of Defense is preemptively preparing for potential cuts to the Pentagon’s budget before Elon Musk and DOGE arrive. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth isn’t shying away from DOGE aides evaluating defense spending: “We welcome DOGE to the Pentagon.” Also, we received the news overnight that DOGE entered the IRS.
Reading headlines about DOGE arriving on the scene at the Pentagon and IRS raises all sorts of practical and theoretical questions. What all will DOGE be doing? Essentially, the DOGE aides will conduct an audit – giving the IRS a taste of their own medicine. DOGE will review operations and contracts to look for signs of waste, fraud, abuse, and just plain inefficiency.
We are witnessing an exciting time for conservatives because we have long decried the federal government’s reckless, out-of-control spending that has plagued our nation for far too long. If you remember, the Tea Party movement began roughly 15 years ago after conservatives condemned the heavy taxation on Americans. And as angry as they were back then, Tea Party members couldn’t possibly fathom just how much more fiscally irresponsible Washington, D.C., has become since.
Let’s consider what DOGE will be evaluating at the Pentagon. Right now, the DOD’s budget is “in excess of $800 billion, accounting for at least 12% of the $6.75 trillion federal budget.”
To be clear, we want our military to be well-funded. But here’s the problem: The Pentagon just failed its seventh audit in a row. So its leaders can’t account for where all the money is being spent. That’s not even considering the $100 billion that was earmarked for Ukraine, which supposedly went missing.
Unfortunately, bureaucrats often go on spending sprees to ensure that they spend all their budget so Congress won’t shrink their budget the following year. One of the most egregious examples from the last few years was when the Pentagon was caught buying $10,000 toilet seat covers. It’s just outrageous and irresponsible.
Hegseth has made it clear that under his watch the U.S. military will “focus on lethality, meritocracy, accountability, standards, and readiness.” This is a far cry from the military’s focus during the Biden Administration. To achieve this culture change, the Pentagon must get its spending under control and ensure that every dollar is spent wisely.
As I mentioned earlier, DOGE is now scrutinizing the IRS. ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison shared why Americans are enjoying the IRS being audited:
So for too long, the American people have been squirming under the arbitrary bureaucratic power of the IRS. America’s most feared agency has been the IRS. Now it’s the IRS’s turn to squirm under the scrutiny of DOGE, and the American people have never been happier. You can hear champagne corks popping in Maine, in Florida, in Chicago, and in Los Angeles because this is a fantastic day for the American people. We can now finally see what is under the hood of the IRS, and I think it will ultimately prove very, very ugly.
As most of our supporters know, the ACLJ has a long history of aggressively fighting the IRS regarding the targeting of Tea Party members and Christian organizations. It is a department that has been infected with politics and abused its power either to imprison or audit Americans.
The ACLJ is taking legal action to defend DOGE’s mission. We just filed (now) four briefs in courts across the country in crucial federal cases, defending the President’s authority to govern and carry out his agenda for the good of our nation.
The reckless judicial overreach we’re seeing is a direct assault on the Constitution’s original design. This isn’t just legal overreach; it’s lawfare – an attempt to weaponize the courts to undermine the presidency. We’re fighting back, and you can join our fight by signing our petition to defend DOGE.
