Free Speech

A

A

The ACLJ won a major free speech case for a Washington State park volunteer who was fired for displaying pro-Trump bumper stickers on his vehicle. This dismissal clearly violated our client’s constitutionally protected free speech. The Deep State has a history of targeting Trump supporters, and we were victorious in fighting back.

Before being let go, our client had a stellar record as a volunteer at the park, even winning an “Award for Excellence.” He also didn’t engage in political conversations with park visitors. He simply had stickers on his vehicle, and a park visitor freaked out after seeing them.

After the triggered visitor claimed our client was “insurrectionalist” [sic] for having the bumper stickers, the park fired the volunteer. He contacted us, and we intervened. And we are proud to report we were victorious on behalf of our client. In fact, we ensured that Washington changed its policy for the entire state to protect future attacks on state workers.

In other Trump news, the Supreme Court will decide whether to take Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Trump immunity appeal after a judge paused the election interference case against the former President. The immunity appeal relates to Trump’s argument that he should be declared immune from prosecution for actions done while he was President.

My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, has firsthand experience in arguing for presidential immunity when he personally defended the President at the Supreme Court and during his impeachment trial. He believed a very dangerous precedent was being set for the country.

Fox News reports on the legal development:

The judge presiding over the case against former President Donald Trump and his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election acknowledged she does not have jurisdiction over the matter while it is pending before the Supreme Court, and put a pause on the case against the Republican 2024 frontrunner until the high court determines its involvement.

Special Counsel Jack Smith on Monday asked the Supreme Court to rule on whether Trump can be prosecuted on charges relating to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

A federal judge ruled the case could go forward, but Trump said he would ask the federal appeals court in Washington, D.C., to reverse that outcome. Smith is attempting to bypass the appeals court — the usual next step in the process — and have the Supreme Court take up the matter directly.

We told you what appears to be Smith’s true motives behind requesting the Supreme Court to expedite the case. He wants to ensure that this trial begins on March 4, the day before Super Tuesday – when the majority of states will vote in the 2024 presidential primary. Clearly, politics are the driving motivation behind Smith’s request.

ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison unleashed a scathing critique of Smith’s shady record as a prosecutor:

Jack Smith’s approach to the law amounts to nothing less than . . . using the law, if you will, as a battering ram. So Jack Smith has a reputation for overcharging defendants and for disregarding justice. And I think that is perhaps going to come home to roost in this particular case. . . . Jack Smith seems to be insufficiently concerned about violating the Constitution. . . . He [also] seems to be insufficiently concerned about violating the constitutional rights of a serving President.

When you read the order from U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan there should be no way this case goes to trial by March. There’s too much that’s required in a normal judicial process. I hope the rule of law prevails in the Deep State’s attempted takedown of Trump.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast celebrated the major victory for free speech on behalf of the ACLJ’s client. We also discussed the implications of the judge pausing Trump’s election interference case. Former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell joins to discuss President Biden’s foreign policy.
