Columbus Dispatch - One More Ohio Tea Party Group Joins Lawsuit Against IRS

The Liberty Township Tea Party has joined a lawsuit that accuses the Obama administration of violating its constitutional rights after the Internal Revenue Service targeted their application for 501 (c ) status for extra scrutiny.

In all, 41 groups, including Ohio’s Shelby County Liberty Group, the Portage County Tea Party and the Fremont County-based American Patriots Against Government Excess have joined the lawsuit filed by the American Center for Law and Justice.

Earlier this year, IRS officials announced they targeted organizations with Tea Party-like names – think “Tea Party,” “Patriot” and “Liberty” – for extra scrutiny in their applications for tax-exept status.

Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow said the targeting “was pervasive and damaging to our clients.”. . .
