Biden Makes Surprise Visit to Ukraine
Today is President’s Day when we commemorate our past Commanders-in-Chief, who have led and served our nation and comforted Americans in times of trouble – much like we’re experiencing now with record inflation, high gas prices, a flood of illegal crossings at our southern border, including known terrorists, human traffickers, and a deadly fentanyl crisis, and now an environmental disaster in Ohio.
So, of course, in keeping with that spirit, our sitting President Joe Biden has just made a surprise visit to . . . Kyiv, Ukraine.
President Biden arrived in Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv early Monday morning in a surprise visit just ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country.
Biden delivered remarks and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky at Mariinsky Palace to announce an additional half-billion dollars in U.S. assistance. The new assistance includes shells for howitzers, anti-tank missiles, air surveillance radars and other aid but no new advanced weaponry.
The trip is the first time Biden has traveled to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion one year ago.
An American President visiting a war zone to support an ally is actually a very presidential move on Biden’s part. The problem is all the suffering going on right in the United States that the President has all but ignored while kowtowing to adversarial foreign leaders. It’s been more than two weeks since the train derailment that ultimately caused the release of toxic chemicals, which have been seeping into the ground and water supply in Ohio and endangering countless Americans, and there is no sign of President Biden. Ohio is a much quicker trip from Washington, D.C., than to the capital of Ukraine. Apparently, it’s just not a priority.
But instead, the Biden Administration is sending a clear message, once again – America Last. We’re sickened by Putin’s assault on Ukraine. But our President is ignoring serious problems, actively harming Americans, while taking trips to foreign countries and sending them billions of dollars in aid money – provided by the American taxpayers. How will all this aid help end the war?
It simply won’t. It’ll only exacerbate the conflict. The world needs to force Putin to the table to negotiate an end to this horrific conflict. But as for President Biden, it’s finally time to take care of Americans first. When everyone here is safe, maybe then we’ll applaud this photo-op in Kyiv.
Meanwhile, there are now reports that China is considering sending “lethal” aid and support – aka weapons, among other possible tools of destruction up China’s sleeve – to Russia. This war continues to escalate to more terrifying proportions. The American people deserve to know President Biden’s endgame.
ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy – and former Acting Director of National Intelligence – Ric Grenell cautioned that this escalation is indeed a very clear and very present danger:
We have a problem here because, first of all, we have a State Department that is talking about war and not talking about peace. We have a State Department that is not putting forward diplomatic solutions, ideas, and forcing the parties into some sort of talk and compromise. It seems like all of Washington is just fanning the flames of war, and that’s my biggest concern. . . . The escalation is real. We have to understand that this is headed toward an even bigger world war. And therefore we need to have some options for an off-ramp. We need to have a State Department doing something with people who want to avoid war.
It would certainly be much more comforting for this Administration to direct its focus back home on the American people.
