President Donald Trump is sending a massive message to world leaders as his tariff threats are already paying off. A trade war with Colombia has just been averted after the country surrendered to Trump’s demands.

Over the weekend, two U.S. military planes were transporting violent illegal immigrants back to Colombia, their country of origin. Colombia’s President, Gustavo Petro, refused to allow the planes to land.

President Trump was in the middle of a round of golf when he heard the news. He then posted on Truth Social:

Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States, so I have directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures:

-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
-IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.

These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!

Now prior to the last Administration, sending violent criminals back to their country of origin was standard protocol. And though Colombia initially said it wouldn’t take the criminals back, the threat of the tariffs forced Colombia to cave in.

So even while playing golf, President Trump sent a message not only to Colombia but also to the world. A new sheriff is in town, and the U.S. will not be pushed around.

ACLJ Senior Counsel and Director of Policy Harry Hutchison reacted to Trump’s major message to world leaders:

It says that President Trump, unlike his predecessor, can do several things at once. He can play golf, he can sign 200 Executive actions and simultaneously hold a press conference, and he can impose tariffs on countries that are opposed to American interests. He also sent a signal to illegals that are in the U.S., that they now have an opportunity to self-deport, but he also sent a signal to Panama, to Mexico, to Iran, to Russia – to virtually every single country in the world – that the U.S. will not accept policies that are contrary to U.S.’s interest. And so lastly, but perhaps most importantly, Donald Trump has signaled that there is a President in the White House who is actually awake, and I think that’s an important statement for the rest of the world.

The Trump Administration has only been in office for a few days, yet everything already feels radically different. More Israeli hostages have been released. And Vladimir Putin even admitted that the Ukrainian war probably wouldn’t have happened under Trump’s watch. How will the other world leaders react to Trump protecting U.S. interests? We’ll see in the days ahead.

We are also excited about President Trump’s unabashed support for the pro-life movement. Don’t forget that he became the first U.S. President to participate in the March for Life in 2020. And last Thursday, Trump pardoned 23 peaceful pro-life advocates who were outrageously prosecuted under a twisted interpretation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.

Trump remarked during the Oval Office ceremony, “Twenty-three people were prosecuted. They should not have been prosecuted. Many of them are elderly people. . . . This is a great honor to sign this.”

Though these 23 individuals were pardoned, the far Left’s attacks on pro-life advocates continue. We are currently defending a pro-life advocate who is being prosecuted at the local level after sharing his lifesaving message outside a Planned Parenthood facility in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
