Is the Tide Turning? Ivy League Resignations Showing America’s Support for Israel
A public backlash ensued after a House committee hearing grilled the presidents of Harvard (Claudine Gay), MIT (Sally Kornbluth), and Penn (Liz Magill) about rising antisemitism and hate speech against Jewish students on their Ivy League campuses. To the shock of many, the presidents refused to condemn the antisemitism outright.
Because of the public’s reaction, Penn’s president resigned, and the other presidents are being pressured to do the same. Is the tide turning against the radical pro-Hamas sentiment in America?
Fox News reports on Rep. Elise Stefanik’s (NY-21) response to Penn’s president resigning:
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., applauded the resignation of University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill on Saturday.
Magill resigned Saturday after days of criticism following her appearance at a Congressional hearing Tuesday, where she failed to give a clear answer to Stefanik’s question asking if calls for the genocide of Jews would violate university conduct.
“One down. Two to go,” Stefanik posted to X Saturday. “This is only the very beginning of addressing the pervasive rot of antisemitism that has destroyed the most “prestigious” higher education institutions in America. This forced resignation of the president of @Penn is the bare minimum of what is required. These universities can anticipate a robust and comprehensive Congressional investigation of all facets of their institutions negligent perpetration of antisemitism including administrative, faculty, funding, and overall leadership and governance.”
“@Harvard and @MIT do the right thing. The world is watching,” she added.
Though Penn’s president resigned, she remains a tenured professor at the university’s law school. So she’s not going anywhere and will still get a paycheck. But at least she’s no longer the face of the university.
Her resignation shows the power of a congressional hearing. I can’t remember the last congressional hearing leading to such a quick response. In Penn’s case, the president’s resignation came on the heels of a $100 million donation being withheld if she kept her job. We’ll see if the impact of the congressional hearing also seals the fate of the other two presidents.
Despite the public backlash, a report came out that 500 faculty members signed a letter in support of Harvard’s President Gay – another example of how widespread antisemitism runs throughout the university.
This faculty support comes despite the claims that President Gay is a mediocre scholar at best. For example, she’s been accused of plagiarizing her dissertation. But the Harvard academic elites still ignore the president’s flaws because of their blind devotion to their radical ideology.
The university presidents could have protected their jobs if they had the wherewithal to condemn antisemitism outright. This shouldn’t have been a controversial issue. However, because of their radicalism, they were willing to go down with the ship – a ship manned by Islamic jihadists willing to wipe out an entire race of people.
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joined the broadcast and reacted to the resignation of Penn’s president:
The departure of one president from one of our major universities doesn’t resolve that core challenge, which is that for so long we’ve not had American universities being either very American or being universities, right? . . . [Her resignation] is indicative of how deep the rot is inside our major elite, liberal universities, but there’s a long way to go much work to do to bring them back to the place where they can once again be great assets for the United States and a great place for young people to go learn and make themselves ready to deal with the complexities of our world.
When will sanity be restored to these academic campuses? We want these institutions to again be premiere destinations for students to learn. Speaking of radicalism, the ACLJ just had a Midwestern town try to take down a nativity scene that’s been outside the town fire station for 15 years. Citizens in the community contacted us, and we are working to defend their religious liberty.

Today’s Sekulow responded to the mounting pressure on all the university presidents to resign for their refusal to condemn antisemitism. We also announced a new amicus brief we are filing today against Biden’s Deep State for failing to turn over documents after a FOIA request. We beat the Biden Administration in a similar lawsuit and are filing this case to prevent the Deep State from being shielded further.
