News Coverage of ACLJ Defending NY Student Suspended for Wearing Rosary to School
The ACLJ is defending a 13-year-old student from New York who has been suspended twice in two weeks for wearing a Rosary to school. Raymond Hosier, a 7th grader, says the Rosary brings him comfort and also honors his brother and uncle who have passed away.
The ACLJ has filed a lawsuit challenging the school district's punishment and says the disciplinary action violates Raymond's First Amendment rights.
A federal district court judge granted the ACLJ's request for a Temporary Restraining Order(TRO) clearing the way for Raymond to return to class with his Rosary in place. And both parties agreed to a court order extending the TRO through September - a move that ensures that Raymond will be able to finish out this school year with the Rosary in place.
