Protecting the Pro-Life Message
I have approved the filing of a new lawsuit to be filed later this week in Washington, D.C. against Planned Parenthood and a security guard on behalf of a pro-life Catholic college student who was assaulted outside an abortion clinic - by the security guard - for simply exercising his free speech rights. This suit is expected to be filed Friday and will ask the court to order Planned Parenthood and the security guard to pay damages in the case and to protect the constitutional rights of our client - who was tackled and pushed to the ground while standing on a public sidewalk. This is an important case and I will keep you posted with additional details when we file.
The pro-life message is under attack - not only outside that Planned Parenthood clinic in DC - but in the judicial confirmation process on Capitol Hill as well. Don't forget - it is the conservative pro-life judicial nominees who are being targeted by a minority in the Senate. They face a filibuster - an obstructionist tactic that prevents Senators from taking an up-or-down vote on the nominee. I am working with our legislative team in Washington and we continue to communicate directly with the Senate leadership - letting them know that more than 30,000 people from across the country are standing with us and demanding that the Senate change its rules - putting the judicial filibuster off limits.
As Congress prepares for its spring recess, I want you to know that we will continue to push for this rules change and will be ready for this Senate showdown that could take place the week of May 9th. I want to thank those who have already signed on to our Petition to End Judicial Filibusters and encourage those who haven't done so yet - to take a moment right now and add your name to the petition.
