Legal Setback in Schiavo Case
The legal options continue to dwindle in the case of Terri Schiavo. A disappointing ruling yesterday by a Florida judge who rejected a request by a state agency to intervene in the case to conduct an investigation of allegations of abuse. The judge said the intervention was inappropriate and refused to permit the agency to enter the case. The agency had requested a 60-day delay in removing Terri's feeding tube, which is now scheduled to be removed one week from today.
I am continuing to explore all options available in the legal and legislative arena. I will send members of our legislative team in Washington to Florida at the beginning of next week to engage members of the state legislature as efforts move forward to pushing through legislation to save Terri's life. I am also working with members of Florida's Congressional delegation in Washington concerning federal legislation that's been introduced this week to help Terri.
I continue to ask you to pray for Terri and her family. These are very difficult times. I also know that thousands of you have signed on to our petition urging the Governor and state legislature to act in this case. I want to thank you for signing the petition and encourage those who have not yet done so to add your name today.
