Judicial Showdown Ahead
I am meeting this week with members of the U.S. Senate concerning the issue of judicial nominations. As you know, the topic of the judicial filibuster is generating more news and our legislative team in Washington is working to ensure that members of the Senate and their staff understand that Americans want President Bush's judicial nominees to get fair treatment that includes an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor. By using a filibuster, those nominees don't get that opportunity. Their nomination gets put on hold.
I want to thank the more than 25,000 people who have signed on to our Petition to End Judicial Filibusters. I am communicating with the Senate on a daily basis. If you have not yet signed on to encourage this critical rules change, please sign the petition today.
All of this, of course, leads up to what everyone is expecting at the Supreme Court of the United States. This is a prelude to what will happen when there's a vacancy at the Supreme Court. Both sides are very mobilized on this issue and I encourage you to read an article from the latest edition of Business Week magazine. Business Week says the ACLJ "is the leading advocacy group for religious freedom." It is an important article because it shows that no one is taking this issue for granted.
