Focus on Supreme Court
There continues to be more media speculation about a possible vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court. The latest article is written by the Bloomberg news service and focuses on the fact that both sides are gearing up for a battle once a vacancy occurs. I encourage you to read this story and you will see first hand that People for the American Way is prepared to aggressively oppose any nominee put forward by President Bush. As I told the reporter who wrote the story, we are prepared as well at the ACLJ -- ready to mobilize on a number of fronts once a vacancy occurs.
And, U.S. News & World Report, in an article this week, suggests that a Supreme Court vacancy is "America's next big political face-off" and notes that the ACLJ is on the front lines of this battle. The article also reports that the ACLJ stands ready for this battle as does People for the American Way.
I want to take a moment and thank all of you who make our work at the ACLJ possible. In addition to our work safeguarding your religious and constitutional freedoms in the courts and on Capitol Hill -- we are poised to engage People for the American Way and others in what will be an unprecedented battle over the next vacancy at the U.S. Supreme Court.
