Chief Justice Rehnquist Passes Away

We just received word that Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist passed away this evening at home surrounded by his children.  I have had the pleasure of appearing before the Chief Justice 12 times presenting oral arguments to the Court.  The Chief Justice served our country with honor and distinction and will be remembered for his great service to this nation.  As Frank Manion, our Senior Counsel, said, With the passing of Chief Justice Rehnquist, it seems somehow fitting that the last opinion he wrote was upholding the public display of the Ten Commandments as the preeminent symbol of law in Western Civilization.  As our country is going through a difficult time, and now with the passing of the Chief Justice, let us continue to pray for President Bush and those in authority.
