I am happy to report that the United States Senate has just confirmed William H. Pryor as a judge to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  I have had the privilege of working with Judge Pryor since the mid-1990s.  Judge Pryor provided the state of Alabama with distinguished service as the state Attorney General and has already proven to be an exceptional U.S. Court of Appeals judge, serving as a recess appointee to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.  We are delighted that the United States Senate voted to confirm Judge Pryor.

So far, in the last week since the compromise was reached, we've seen the confirmation of Judge Priscilla Owen to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Judge William H. Pryor to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and Janice Rogers Brown to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.  Each of these nominees will serve the country well.  They are well-qualified and typify the types of nominees President Bush has put forward to serve on the federal bench.  It is anticipated that there will be additional confirmations moved on later today.

The confirmation fights that we've seen ensue over the last several months will only intensify if there becomes a vacancy at the Supreme Court of the United States.  Please know that our Office of Governmental Affairs staff has worked diligently on these nominations and will continue to move forward as additional vacancies occur.
