IRWIN Pa. - A Westmoreland County borough will let a church use a public park for a National Day of Prayer observance after a Christian legal group threatened to sue if the church was denied equal access.

Irwin borough council has agreed to let the Suburban Community Church use the park on May 1.

The church had the American Center for Law & Justice threaten a suit if the church was denied equal access to the park.

The ACLJ is a Washington, D.C.-based group that fights for the constitutional right of groups and individuals to express religious beliefs.

The borough denied used of a park to another church group last year because borough officials say that group wanted the borough to "sanction" the event.
