(Washington, DC) The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), focusing on constitutional law, today issued this statement from ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow regarding the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

In her decision to withdraw her nomination, Harriet Miers expressed concern over efforts to obtain Executive Branch materials and information that violates executive privilege. In withdrawing her nomination, Harriet Miers once again put the interests of this nation and of this President above her own interests.  President Bush has now said he will nominate a replacement for Justice OConnor in a timely manner and I have no doubt that the President will put forth a nominee who has a conservative judicial philosophy someone who will not legislate from the bench.  The American Center for Law and Justice will continue to support the President as he seeks to identify and nominate solid judicial conservatives for the federal courts.

Led by Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, the American Center for Law and Justice is based in Washington, D.C.
