(Washington, DC) The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), focusing on constitutional law, today applauded the Senate Judiciary Committee for approving the nomination of Judge Bill Pryor to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  Judge Pryor, who was named to the appeals court last year by President Bush in a recess appointment, cleared the Committee by a vote of 10-to-8.

Were delighted that the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination of Bill Pryor a critical step in the confirmation process, said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ.   As a recess appointment, Judge Pryor has served with distinction for more than a year on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.  He has an exemplary record of accomplishment and has proven that he follows the rule of law.  We are delighted that this nomination for a permanent seat on the appeals court now goes to the full Senate.  We call on members of the Senate to give this nominee and all nominees an up-or-down vote on the Senate floor.  The use of the judicial filibuster must come to an end and we are hopeful the Senate leadership is now poised to make that a reality.

More than 40,000 people have signed the ACLJs Petition to End Judicial Filibusters.  The ACLJ, focusing on constitutional law, is based in Washington, D.C.
