(Washington, DC) The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), focusing on constitutional law, said today the bi-partisan vote in the Senate confirming John Roberts as Chief Justice shows that Roberts exemplifies the judicial philosophy embraced by most Americans a mainstream philosophy that focuses on upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.

John Roberts will make an exceptional Chief Justice who brings a deep respect and clear understanding of the Constitution and the rule of law to the Supreme Court of the United States, said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, who supported the nomination.  Its important to note that the bi-partisan support in the Senate underscores the acceptance of John Roberts and his judicial philosophy of interpreting the Constitution instead of legislating from the bench a philosophy embraced by most Americans.  As John Roberts prepares to begin work on a term where the high court will consider a number of critical issues including abortion the focus now centers on President Bushs next nominee to replace retiring Justice OConnor.

There are those who are promising a bitter battle ahead for the next Supreme Court nominee.  We expect the President to put forth a nominee who holds the same judicial philosophy exhibited by John Roberts.  This is a vital appointment one that will determine the outcome of some of the most important political and cultural issues of the day.  This is a defining moment for the President and the Senate.  And we anticipate a well qualified nominee with a judicial philosophy that safeguards the Constitution and the rule of law.
