ACLJ Calls for Fair Confirmation Hearing for Supreme Court Nominee John Roberts
September 12, 2005
(Washington, DC) The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), focusing on constitutional law, today called on the Senate Judiciary Committee to provide Supreme Court nominee John Roberts with a fair confirmation hearing and refrain from unfounded attacks and assertions concerning his judicial philosophy and record. Confirmation hearings begin today for Roberts who has been nominated to serve as Chief Justice.
Its time for the Senate to end the political posturing and provide John Roberts with a fair hearing on his judicial philosophy and his record, said Jay Sekulow, Chief Counsel of the ACLJ, who supports the nomination and is attending the hearings. As an extremely well qualified nominee who will serve the nation with honor, John Roberts deserves a hearing that permits an honest and fair look at his background and judicial philosophy absent unfounded assertions designed to distort his record. We urge the Senate to move forward swiftly and bring the nomination to a vote without delay. The American people deserve a Chief Justice who will uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. That is exactly what John Roberts will do.
