We know that this Administration and Congress seem interested in adopting a new spending priority.  President Obama wasted no time in issuing an Executive Order clearing the way for using federal taxpayer funds abroad for abortion--a bad move and one thats reflected in a new Gallup poll with nearly 60% of Americans saying they opposed that pro-abortion decision.

And, then in the House, Speaker Pelosi pushed hard to include family planning services in the House version of the economic stimulus package.  The provision ultimately was removed and now pro-abortion organizations like the National Abortion Federation are urging the White House to restore that provision which would provide hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for contraception and abortion.

Thats a troubling pattern developing here.  And it likely reflects what most certainly will be an ongoing battle to determine the appropriate use of taxpayer funds.

Our legislative and legal teams are engaging these issues in Washington.  I want you to read an important legal memorandum on this issue written by Jacqueline Michelle Schaffer, Staff Counsel in our Washington Office of Government Affairs.  You can read the memo here.

At the ACLJ, we will continue to fight to protect human life and work to keep Washington from spending more of your tax dollars on abortion.
