2011 Victories: Prolife Message Will Not be Silenced
Over the past year, the ACLJ has been actively engaged in numerous efforts to defend free speech rights, religious liberties, the lives of the unborn, our heritage as a nation, and so many other freedoms we hold dear.
We have achieved many critical victories, and it is important that we take a step back and look at what has been accomplished through the efforts and support of our ACLJ members as we press on in the many ongoing battles we face in the year ahead.
This is the first in a year-end series looking back at a few of the hundreds of victories the ACLJ has achieved over the past year – some big and some small. In fact, this may have been the first victory of the year.
For over a decade, prolife advocates in Birmingham, AL were unable to stand on the public sidewalks near abortion clinics to convey their lifesaving message, provide counseling to women in need, and distribute literature about alternatives to abortion. The problem, an inapplicable federal court injunction against the activities of a specific group of protesters was being enforced against all prolife advocates, even those who were not defendants in the prior suit.
When we learned of the situation, our attorneys immediately got involved representing these prolife advocates in court. On January 4, 2011, the trial judge agreed with our argument that this injunction was inapplicable to them and that the free speech rights of our prolife clients were being violated. Now, the lifesaving message of prolife advocates can once again be share in Birmingham, AL.
To help the ACLJ continue to have the resources we need to make these victories possible and continue these fights, please consider making a donation to the ACLJ through our year-end Matching Challenge. Your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar though the end of the year.
