Israel remains on high alert after a terrorist strike in the heart of Jerusalem.  A deadly bombing at at a bus stop sent shock waives through the streets and once again underscored the dangers facing Israel by Islamic extremists.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will act "firmly, responsibly and wisely" to preserve the "quiet and security" that has existed here over the last two years.

"Lately there have been elements which have been trying to break this calm," he added. "They are trying to test our determination and the country's staying power. They will discover that the government, the army and the Israeli public has a steel will to protect the state and its citizens."

It did not take long for the terrorists to applaud this deadly attack.  Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad lauded the brutal bombing.  In a troubling response, one of the terror groups in the region appeared to justify the bombing by saying it was a "natural response to Israeli crimes."  The terror group said it "applauds all efforts to respond to the crimes committed daily against our people."

Calling the incident a "cowardly terrorist attack," Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said his main concern is that this could happen anywhere.

He is right.  That's why it is so important for us to stand with Israel during this dangerous time. Israel is our friend. Israel is our ally.

The fact is that Islamic extremism - which seeks to destroy freedom - is on the increase in the Middle East and here at home.
