SHOCKING: Biden’s New State Department Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Going “About the Work of Dismantling [America’s] Traditional Structure at Every Juncture”

As Secretary of State, I viewed it as my essential mission to put a team in place at the State Department that could serve and represent America with class, dignity, and a reverence for our incredible nation while executing for President Trump.  Under the Biden Administration, this commitment has been lost, and it has been replaced by a mission to spread a far-Left, progressive ideology that is un-American and does not reflect how the American people view themselves, their country, or the world.  The appointment of the State Department’s new Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer is a case study in how radically disconnected the Biden Administration is from America’s founding principles.

Recently, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that Zakiya Carr Johnson had been appointed as the State Department’s new Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.  Carr Johnson has spent her career peddling critical race theory-inspired nonsense, and she previously served as then-President Barack Obama’s senior adviser and director of the first Race, Ethnicity and Social Inclusion Unit at the State Department – yet another indication that the Biden Administration is simply a radical continuation of what began under the Obama Administration.

Carr Johnson has stated in the past that, “we live and work within systems . . . so deeply rooted in patriarchy and colonialism and racism and otherism” that it is necessary to “be about the work of dismantling that traditional structure at every juncture.”  She’s also called America a “failed historic model.”  This person shouldn’t be anywhere near a position of real power, let alone be appointed as the diversity, equity, and inclusion czar at the State Department.

Set aside the individual, though, and consider why this position even exists at all.  According to the State Department website, the mission of this office is to “create a workforce that truly reflects the country we represent.”  The State Department can hardly be credited for accurately representing the entire United States, and neither can the Biden Administration’s political appointees: The vast majority of foreign service officers (FSO) and Biden appointees hail from either Ivy League schools or the collection of universities in the Washington, D.C., area.  Previous reports have also indicated that Ivy League grads generally get an advantage in the FSO promotion process.  It’s no wonder the Biden Administration and the entrenched bureaucracy’s treatment of Israel and Hamas has aligned so closely with the crazed student protesters at Harvard and Yale: They are fellow travelers.  This is one reason why America has suffered under a failed, decades-long foreign policy approach that is disconnected from the concerns of average Americans.

I recognized these problems as Secretary of State and determined that “our team should reflect the millions of Americans outside the Boston-D.C. corridor.”  I traveled around the country, speaking in schools, legislatures, and communities during my time at the State Department to communicate the gravity of the challenges America was facing and to encourage all Americans to serve at places like the State Department, regardless of their background.

The Biden Administration has a different objective in mind.  Its core commitment is to inflict a divisive, un-American, Marxist dogma on the American people, wasting your tax dollars to do it.  President Biden has signed a bevy of Executive Orders aimed at completely overhauling the federal workforce, replete with objectives such as “Embedding Equity into Government-wide Processes” and “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.”

The end result of these actions is not a system governed by equal treatment based on merit; it is a system where individuals advance only if they profess the same narrow, radical ideology as the progressive regime, regardless of their competence or merits.  Thus, we now have a group of Cabinet officials and political appointees who have little to no experience in the private sector, but who are all willing to bend the knee to progressive nonsense and climate change absurdities.

The State Department’s mission is not merely to operate embassies around the world.  It is to conduct American diplomacy in a manner that puts the American people first and champions the foundational principles of our nation.  Accordingly, it should be staffed by individuals who actually love America and revere what our nation stands for, not ideologues who think that America represents a "failed historic model."  It is literally impossible for people who hate America to advance its best interests on the world stage. If President Trump returns to the White House next January, he should immediately dismantle these DEI programs, direct his Cabinet officials to do the same, and put in place systems of merit that align with our Constitution and core principles.
