The so-called “Squad” just pulled another publicity stunt, this time faking being handcuffed by Capitol Police during a pro-abortion protest outside of the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday.

As if our Capitol Police don’t have enough to deal with these days, yesterday they had to detain Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and 17 Members of Congress – including her Squad cohorts Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Cori Bush – who were intentionally there for little more than a photo op. Not one of them was actually handcuffed or restrained mind you. They were peacefully, respectfully escorted away from the protest by Capitol Police, just as ample videos and photos taken at the scene clearly show.

It was AOC and company that decided to make it a big charade, walking with their hands behind their backs to give themselves the appearance of being arrested for protesting. Of course, AOC’s performance might have been a bit more convincing had she not raised a fist to the crowd as a sign of solidarity with the other protestors. She quickly realized her mistake and slipped her hand back into the invisible handcuffs behind her back.

AOC has a lot to learn about suffering for your beliefs.

The Squad and others were just manipulating the media for attention. Don’t forget for a moment that they have the critical Midterm Elections coming up in November and they want all the press they can get. Admittedly I can understand why the likes of AOC, Ilhan Omar, and others might not want to run on their achievements thus far. Even the radical Left must realize the Green New Deal and antisemitism are probably not great campaign talking points.

I know they don’t like that the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. And it is their constitutional right to protest, but this whole event was a farce. It’s nothing more than a political stunt that wasted precious resources as well as the time of our Capitol Police, who quite frankly have been through enough in the last year and a half.

Let me tell you about real protesters who are willing to face true consequences for their actions because of the strength of their convictions. In the 1980’s I represented pro-life protesters who were violently dragged away by the police. I worked with pro-life volunteers who’d had their arms broken to put them in handcuffs. Real handcuffs. Not imaginary ones.

None of those pro-life protestors got publicity. They weren’t trending on social media. They were unsung heroes of the pro-life movement. Without their sacrifices some 40 years ago we might not have seen this year’s historic Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe.

Meanwhile, we told you how Sen. Elizabeth Warren called to “shut . . . down” all pro-life crisis pregnancy centers, accusing them of “tortur[ing]” pregnant women. The “torture”? Offering them an alternative to save them and their baby. The ACLJ has been representing these lifesaving centers for years, and we’re defending them today.

ACLJ Senior Counsel Frank Manion joined me to discuss how in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, the Left has ramped up its assault on pro-life crisis pregnancy centers and what we’re doing right now to defend them:

We’ve got a strategy, really it’s three parts – there may be more parts as we develop this thing – but first particularly in New York where an act was passed immediately after Dobbs authorizing an investigation by the state health department and other agencies to investigate in effect crisis pregnancy centers, and ONLY crisis pregnancy centers. We were able to read between the lines of this thing, and this is “investigate in order to terminate.” That’s what this was all about. That’s what this is all about. The Attorney General and other political officials of New York have basically said that. They’re barely holding back now. So we’ve been retained by two different crisis pregnancy centers in New York already. We’re in talks with three others. We had a meeting this morning with one . . . we’ve also had meetings with crisis pregnancy centers in Michigan.

So first of all we’re going to defend them against these witch hunts. What does that mean? Not only will we advise them but when they get subpoenas, which they will, we will in appropriate circumstances move to quash those. I suspect we have a lot of free speech arguments there.

As ACLJ Senior Counsel Andy Ekonomou explained: “A motion to quash essentially says that this subpoena should not be enforced. That the court should suppress it. And that the person directed to appear or directed to produce documents should not be required to comply with the terms of the subpoena.”

Frank Manion went on to explain how these attacks have turned extremely dangerous, and potentially deadly:

We’ve got to work closely with local police and prosecutors . . . in some places we’re talking about real terrorism. The one in Western New York that we’re talking about today, this clinic was bombed with two Molotov cocktails, did extensive fire damage. All sorts of graffiti from Jane’s Revenge and others threatening physical harm to the people that run this clinic and their family members.

Others have simply been vandalized . . . others have received threats of violence and death directed to themselves and their family members. We’re willing to do whatever these prosecutors and local police need us to do to help them, and we’re making that known to them.

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes further discussion about the Squad’s stunt and the recent targeting of pro-life pregnancy centers. We are also joined by ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to talk about why Chinese Government-owned companies are buying up large parcels of land near military facilities in the United States.
