As we have previously warned you, Speaker Pelosi and the radical pro-abortion Left are trying to shoehorn more funding for abortion and other items into the next relief bill. This bill has very little to do with the Coronavirus pandemic and much to do with the Left’s tyrannical pursuit of power as part of their attempt to put their agenda ahead of the needs of Americans while trying to micromanage the lives of hardworking American citizens.

On May 15, 2020, instead of working with Republicans to reach a bipartisan agreement, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top House Democrats passed their 3 TRILLION DOLLAR stimulus bill – the so-called HEROES Act (H.R. 6800).

The Speaker has made a valiant effort to direct the public’s attention to the next round of $1,200 checks the bill would send to Americans, but it’s hardly a relief bill at all.  In truth, it’s primarily a thinly-veiled wish list for the radical Left, packed with items that have nothing to do with helping struggling Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Offering little more than misdirection, Speaker Pelosi’s bill would let Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry siphon off millions of dollars of Coronavirus aid that would otherwise go to help small businesses and Americans facing financial jeopardy. In fact, it removes abortion funding restrictions from numerous provisions, opening up more than a trillion dollars in taxpayer funding to the abortion industry.

In addition, the bill includes billions of dollars of aid for illegal aliens, provides grants to sanctuary cities, and supplies other protections for illegals. Consistent with the Left’s focus on putting illegals ahead of American citizens, House Democrats voted to provide nearly $1 trillion in additional funding for states and localities, including a bailout for bloated states like California which are prepared to give money to illegal aliens, who were ineligible for stimulus checks or unemployment benefits under the previously enacted CARES Act.

It looks like the only “Heroes” that the Pelosi-led House majority are prepared to recognize are illegal immigrants and abortion providers as they seek to increase state funding for abortion as well as provide direct assistance to Planned Parenthood.

The bill narrowly passed by a 208 – 199 vote. In fact, not only did the bill receive almost no Republican support – Peter King of New York was the sole Republican to vote in favor of the boondoggle – but it didn’t even garner unanimous support from House Democrats.

As reported:

Unlike the first four coronavirus bills, which were passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, this 1,815-page package was drafted by Democrats alone and earned a veto threat from the White House and condemnation from the GOP as a "liberal wish list" that's dead on arrival in the Senate.

Even Pelosi couldn't get all her members on board. The most liberal members of the party panned the legislation as not going big enough, while moderate members in swing districts said they couldn't support a bill that was too partisan and costly.

Fortunately, Senate Majority Leader McConnell has no plans to hold a vote in the U.S. Senate, and will instead turn his attention to a true bipartisan discussion of what response might be needed next—and what could actually get enacted. He has called Speaker Pelosi’s monstrous bill “an 1,800-page seasonal catalog of left-wing oddities.”

Even Rep. Joe Cunningham, a Democrat from South Carolina, said of the bill: "At a time when our country is in real trouble, we should not be spending precious time on one-sided solutions that aren’t going anywhere."

One of the most egregious offenses of Speaker Pelosi’s bill is that it strips away protections that have been put in place to keep crucial funding from being funneled to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood.

In the CARES Act, the first stimulus bill that passed Congress in March, Planned Parenthood was left out of emergency small business loans because of a 500-employee limit for non-profits to be eligible for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. The current bill amends the regulations to allow for Planned Parenthood to access PPP loans.

Hyde protections are not included in the legislation’s funding of state and local governments, and are not attached to subsidies for COBRA premiums or other coverage for furloughed workers that could include abortion coverage.

Under the Speaker’s handiwork, abortion giant Planned Parenthood, which we told you raked in almost $617 million in taxpayer funding last year, and reported over a $100 million in profits last year for killing over 345,000 innocent babies, now preposterously qualifies as a small business, eligible for even more tax dollars.

The bill, as passed in the House, would not only open up $1 trillion worth of accounts to the abortion industry, it would also grant $500 billion to states—like California and Illinois—that have mismanaged their own budgets. And some of the items even put the safety of Americans at risk. As Sen. John Kennedy (LA) put it:

Her bill would rewrite our immigration laws. Her bill would federalize elections. It would allow federal prisoners to go free. It mentions dope more than it talks about jobs. I think it references cannabis like 68 times. It would expand ObamaCare.

How does any of that offer a shred of relief from the Coronavirus pandemic? How does sheltering illegal aliens – who would actually be eligible for relief funds under Speaker Pelosi’s plan – and letting prisoners go free help? It’s actually offensive that the Left would use this global health crisis as a smokescreen to get away with this.

Yet Speaker Pelosi has desperately called on the Senate to act quickly, perhaps knowing if they read too deeply they’ll see it’s a non-starter. If the Speaker and her Leftist colleagues think they can just ram this unconstitutional legislation through Congress and foist it on the American people, they’re in for a rude awakening. Senate leadership has already rightly declared the bill as “dead on arrival.”

We will continue to monitor the progress and let you know of any updates, but we trust that the Senate will indeed kill the preposterous bill and force the Speaker and the Left to come to the table to work out a deal that truly offers aid to the Americans who need it.
