Well, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, it wasn’t just a turkey that got pardoned, but also the President’s son. After repeatedly promising that he wouldn’t do it, President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter Biden for tax evasion and gun convictions – and for anything illegal that happened in the previous ten-year period.

Numerous far-Left Members of Congress are saying Biden made a huge mistake. Who can deny that the checks and balances of the judicial system haven’t been politicized? For example, Colorado Governor Jared Polis posted:

While as a father I certainly understand President @JoeBiden’s natural desire to help his son by pardoning him, I am disappointed that he put his family ahead of the country. This is a bad precedent that could be abused by later Presidents and will sadly tarnish his reputation. When you become President, your role is Pater familias of the nation. Hunter brought the legal trouble he faced on himself, and one can sympathize with his struggles while also acknowledging that no one is above the law, not a President and not a President’s son.

Just as my father, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, and I argued, the far Left lowered the bar for impeachment with two weak impeachments of President Trump, and now the bar has been lowered for presidential pardons.

Just to be clear, in no way am I demeaning the authority that the Constitution gives to the President to issue pardons. The President has universal pardoning power – the Commander-in-Chief can wipe clean records or charges of wrongdoing on federal issues. (The President cannot pardon state crimes.)

Yet, what’s crazy about this particular pardon is that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, just as recently as November 7, reiterated (officially for the sixth time) that Hunter would not be pardoned. Did everyone forget to ask Joe what he planned to do?

It’s painfully obvious that someone else has been running the White House for the past year or more. If anything, pardoning Hunter was likely the moment that Joe said he was done with being told what to do by his handlers. Instead of appeasing those who had been turncoats in his Administration, he doubled down on what was best for his family.

So Biden helped out his son – and the Constitution gives him universal power to do so.

However, I don’t want to hear any more far-Left Members of Congress equating the constant political prosecution of President Trump with the DOJ’s legal charges against Hunter. For the past four years, all we’ve heard is how Trump would receive due process just as Hunter would for tax evasion, the gun charge, and all the scandals involving his business dealings with Burisma and the infamous laptop. And in one fell swoop, that far-Left argument was proven untrue once and for all.

The ACLJ will keep an eye on any further politicizing of the DOJ. We have 18 lawsuits ongoing against the corrupt Biden-Harris Administration, and we will ensure that the Administration is held accountable for any lawless acts during President Biden’s final days in office. You can bet that the Administration will do everything it can to enshrine its socialist policies on its way out the door.

With the incoming Trump Administration, the far Left is going to be waging a full-on war against Christians and conservatives. The ACLJ just began its Faith & Freedom Year End Drive. We can’t win the legal fights to defend faith and freedom without your generous support. Donate today – all gifts are doubled.
