Crime Soars as Left Defies President Trump

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson continues to taunt and defy President Trump after he threatened to send the National Guard in to clean up the warzone that is Chicago.
Cut to this past weekend: While most of us celebrated Labor Day with relaxation and quality time with friends and family, Chicago endured yet another weekend of unfathomable violence. Is partisan politics really going to keep far-Left mayors and governors from working with the President to protect their citizens?
As reported by Fox News:
At least 58 people were shot in Chicago, with eight fatalities, this Labor Day weekend, according to NBC Chicago and at a juncture when its mayor vowed to block President Donald Trump’s efforts to combat crime.
The shootings took place in a series of unrelated incidents, with the majority resulting in no one being taken into custody, police said.
Trump has suggested he may deploy the National Guard and other federal law enforcement to combat crime in the city.
The victims of fatal shootings so far this weekend include at least two women and three men, as well as two others police have not specified. Authorities have not released the names of the deceased.
Yet another bloody holiday weekend in Chicago, underscoring just how chaotic the situation really is. What makes this even more alarming is that these weren’t a handful of mass shooting incidents — they were mostly individual shootings scattered across the city, stretching an already overwhelmed police force to the breaking point.
Surely, at least half of these deaths could have been prevented with enough law enforcement. But sadly, this has become routine in the Windy City. Chicago has long held the grim title of the U.S. city with the most murders annually. And despite mounting evidence that local law enforcement simply doesn’t have the manpower to keep up, state leaders remain defiant toward federal help.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s Mayor Brandon Johnson accused President Trump of being a despot with “racist” and “immoral” policies for wanting to help fight the city’s epidemic of violent crime, and brazenly claimed, “I don’t take orders from the federal government.”
Johnson openly defied Trump’s proposed idea of sending National Guard troops to clean up the Second City, stating: “No federal troops in the city of Chicago. No militarized force in the city of Chicago. We’re going to defend our democracy in the city of Chicago. . . . We’re going to protect the humanity of every single person in the city of Chicago.”
The mayor’s words are ironic considering nearly 60 Chicagoans almost lost their lives – and more than a few did, senselessly – when they were attacked by violent criminals whom Chicago seems more worried about protecting. Why wasn’t their humanity protected, Mr. Mayor?
And for his part, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has stated that he will take on the President if he tries to send troops to Illinois, saying: “We will not stand idly by if he decides to send the National Guard to intimidate Chicagoans. . . . Action will be met with a response.”
Now compare Chicago with Washington, D.C., where the President authorized a surge of federal law enforcement and National Guard personnel to assist local police. And we reported how in just over two weeks, carjackings reportedly dropped by nearly 90%. Other categories of crime have followed the same downward trend.
Even the far-Left mayor of D.C., initially skeptical, has now admitted the program is working. She’s been candid about her ongoing conversations with the U.S. Attorney General and senior White House staff, acknowledging the President’s personal commitment to public safety in America’s cities. Washington, D.C., and Chicago illustrate the stark contrast between what happens when leaders take crime seriously. Chicago’s leadership seems to have placed political gameplay over public safety.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included more discussion of the heartbreaking violence and chaos that is plaguing not just Chicago but also several of our cities across America, and what can and must be done. We also provided an update on a case we’re engaged with in New Jersey, defending parents’ rights to send their kids to the school of their choice, after the state refused to allow their child to ride the bus to a Christian school.
