Yesterday we told you that the bipartisan conference committee had reached an agreement, at least in principle, that could provide both border security and avoid another government shutdown. Congress seems poised to move quickly, with both sides preparing to vote on the agreement.

On today’s broadcast, we discussed the President’s remarks that he doesn’t anticipate another government shutdown:

I don’t think you’re going to see a shutdown. I wouldn’t want to go to it, no. If you did have it, it’s the Democrats’ fault. And I accepted the first one, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished because people learned during that shutdown all about the problems coming in from the southern border. I accept — I’ve always accepted it.

But this one I would never accept if it happens, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

President Trump’s comments, at least so far, have seemed to indicate that he will sign this deal, even though it only provides a little less than $1.4 billion for the wall, and look elsewhere for the rest of the funding.

During yesterday’s cabinet meeting, the President once again assured America he’s building the wall, and has other “methods” to fund it:

The bottom line is — on the wall — we’re building the wall. And we’re using other methods, other than this and in addition to this. We have a lot of things going. We have a lot of money in this country, and we’re using some of that money — a small percentage of that money — to build the wall, which we desperately need.

We’ve already discussed the President’s authority to declare a National Emergency to release funds. Of course he will likely face resistance from the Left – including a number of court challenges – but we believe he is authorized to do so, if it comes down to it. We also believe that there are a number of other legal avenues for the President to secure funding for the Wall.

Senator Ted Cruz said he is introducing legislation to use assets seized from newly-convicted Mexican drug lord, “El Chapo” (Joaquín Guzmán Loera), which amount to about $14 billion dollars, to pay for the wall.

This seems like a fitting solution, using drug money to pay for a barrier to keep drug traffickers and violent criminals out of our country.

We also briefed you on a disturbing development in a case in New York where a man stabbed his pregnant girlfriend to death, killing her and their unborn baby. Even though he specifically committed this heinous act to murder the child, he can no longer be charged with killing the baby because of the newly passed law in New York that we told you decriminalizes killing an unborn child.
