Israel Betrayed: Schumer, Biden, and the Left Call for Regime Change in Israel
President Biden, his Administration, and his far-Left allies are increasingly pushing for regime change in the Middle East. But is it against Iran – who is pushing terrorism around the world, trying to build a nuclear weapon, and pushed Hamas to launch its attack on Israel? No! It’s against one of our closest, democratic allies – Israel. This shameful and outrageous display constitutes a new low for this Administration: Biden truly doesn’t understand the difference between an ally and an enemy.
We saw evidence of this last week when, speaking on the Senate floor, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer asserted that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu had “lost his way” and had “allow[ed] his political survival to take precedence over the best interests of Israel.” He also threatened that if Israel continued its present efforts to dismantle Hamas, it would become a “pariah” – a phrase also used by President Biden on the campaign trail in 2020 to describe another one of our allies, Saudi Arabia. President Biden wasted little time endorsing Schumer’s remarks, calling it “a good speech” that expressed “a serious concern shared not only by [Schumer] but by many Americans.”
This is the latest development in a disturbing trend displayed by the Biden Administration since it began receiving pushback from its progressive base over support for Israel. Desperate to placate radical, far-Left voters in places like Dearborn, MI, Team Biden is now deliberately undermining Israel – even if it means making absurd and hypocritical statements. For instance, President Biden claimed to support Israel’s destruction of Hamas yet drew a “red line” against any Israeli assault on Rafah, the terrorist group’s final redoubt in Gaza. Biden draws red lines to limit our allies; but for the likes of Russia, the Taliban, or Iran, he has blessed a “minor incursion” and allowed American service members to be killed without severe repercussions.
Biden’s officials routinely note that Israel’s effort to destroy Hamas has resulted in 30,000 casualties, without clarifying that nearly half that figure are Hamas soldiers and that there would be far fewer civilian casualties if Hamas did not deliberately use civilians as human shields. President Biden has pushed his team at the State Department to draw up plans for a two-state solution while ignoring two critical factors: Israel – again, our friend and ally – will oppose such a plan and there is no Palestinian government that is trustworthy, let alone willing to accept Israel as a legitimate country. Indeed, if elections were held in the West Bank tomorrow, Hamas – the terrorists – would win in a landslide.
President Biden stated recently that he and Netanyahu needed to have a “come to Jesus” meeting; but truly, it’s Biden’s Administration that needs one. Prime Minister Netanyahu is not acting to advance his own political survival; he is acting to preserve and secure his country and the Israeli people. Likewise, this war did not need to happen; there was peace on October 6. Every action that Israel’s military has taken since the following terrible day lies directly at the feet of Hamas and its Iranian handlers in Tehran. Castigating Israel for taking the necessary steps to keep its people safe is counterproductive and dangerous.
If the Biden Administration really cares about the Palestinian people, it should tell the truth: The Palestinians’ future would be far brighter if Hamas were destroyed, and any pathway to peace starts with acknowledging Israel’s right to exist.
The Biden Administration is failing to understand the same truth that the Obama Administration failed to understand: The supposed harm caused by whatever the “international community” – or a radical voter base in far-Left enclaves scattered across America – thinks of Israel’s effort in Gaza is nothing compared to what will happen if America turns its back on our most important ally in the Middle East. The world watched President Biden abandon our partners on the ground in Afghanistan and let 13 of our own soldiers be killed, and it has watched America and our partners fail to deter or repel Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. This is how deterrence is lost. The Biden Administration’s effort to undermine Israel’s government is not only a deplorable political ploy, but also deeply injurious to our ability to maintain a model of deterrence that keeps Americans safe.
