Just last week in a state television broadcast under banners that read “Death to Israel” and “Death to America,” Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad exclaimed, “The Zionist regime and the Zionists [i.e., Israel and the Israeli people] are a cancerous tumor. Even if one cell of them is left in one inch of land, in the future this story will repeat.”

Iran’s president continued, “With the grace of Allah and help of the nations, in the new Middle East there will be no trace of the Americans and Zionists,” once again calling the State of Israel an “insult to all humanity.”

These latest calls for the destruction of Israel and the Israeli people come on the heels of a new U.S. intelligence report detailing the alarming progress that Iran has made toward nuclear weapons.

Reports abound that Israel is ready to defend itself and on the verge of taking preemptive action to prevent a nuclear Iran.

But where is America and, in particular, President Obama? President Obama has been no friend of Israel.

He demanded Israel return to indefensible borders and called Israel's legitimate West Bank settlements an "occupation." He “cautioned” Israel not to defend itself. He “promise[d]” the Palestinians a state, and was less than firm in his opposition to the terrorist-led Palestinian Authority’s attempted end-run around international law and the Middle East peace process to gain unilateral recognition of statehood at the United Nations.

While Iran’s intent is clear, President Obama’s is not.

President Obama cannot waver in America’s support for Israel - our greatest ally in the Middle East. The American people support Israel, and our nation’s foreign policy must reflect that fact. There can be no mistake that Iran is a threat to not only Israel and the stability of the Middle East, but to America and the entire world.
