100,000 More American Citizens Targeted by Reckless IRS

The IRS is still out of control.  The new IRS is no better than the old one.

See the old Obama Administration IRS targeted American citizen-led groups for their political beliefs, putting conservative groups through a never-ending and unconstitutionally burdensome inquiry process.

The new IRS, under the leadership of Acting Commissioner Daniel Werfel, was supposed to have solved all these problems.  Well it hasn’t.

A new report last week from a nonprofit watchdog reveals that the IRS has inappropriately disclosed the Social Security numbers of 100,000 Americans.

The gross, wanton, reckless behavior of the IRS cannot be overstated.

Even worse, the disclosures were again targeted at politically active Americans, donors to 527 groups.  This is the part of the IRS code for political groups that, incidentally, the Left claims all the conservative groups that were targeted by the IRS before should have applied under.  The IRS isn’t delaying these groups; it’s impermissibly disclosing private taxpayer information, clearly a violation of Sections 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code, not to mention the Privacy Act or the E-Government Act.  There could be no more private taxpayer information than one’s Social Security number – the gateway for all other taxpayer information and even worse, identity theft.

The information was disclosed not months or years ago, but it was publicly available on an IRS Internet database as of July 2, 2013.

Gross incompetence continues to run rampant throughout the IRS.

After the intentional delay and abusive tactics used by the IRS against conservative nonprofit groups because of their political beliefs, we see taking political targeting to a new level.  It is unclear if the improperly release information was again targeted at conservative groups (the database has now been taken down), but at this point it really doesn’t matter.

The misfeasance conducted by the IRS aimed at politically minded Americans is reaching Orwellian proportions.

As we have repeatedly stated, the IRS abuse of the American public is severe, it is widespread, and it is ongoing.  President Obama has literally done nothing to resolve this systemic problem, a fungal rot at the heart of bureaucratic power under his Administration.

Americans are still being targeted.  What began as an unconscionable abuse of several dozen conservative citizen-led groups has expanded to reveal an uncontrollable bureaucratic nightmare.  No one has been fired, the abuse continues with well over 100,000 Americans now directly effected, and groups who were intentionally delayed have yet to be approved.

Political speech, once considered the apex of protected speech, is now treated as an inconvenient waste product of the Constitution by this Administration’s IRS and its apologists on the Left.

The American people deserve better from their government, and they have had enough.

We at the ACLJ are taking action, suing the IRS.  Join us.  Sign the petition to end IRS abuse.
