Today the House Judiciary Committee is conducting a hearing called the “Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan,” listening to testimony from the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives to violent crime.

Rather than taking action to stop dangerous criminals and deadly attacks, the city’s district attorney, Alvin Bragg, is focused on prosecuting former President Trump.

As reported by the New York Post:

The House Judiciary Committee will hear from “victims” of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s policies during a hearing in New York . . . — escalating a confrontation with the progressive prosecutor over his unprecedented criminal case against former President Donald Trump. . . .

A source told The Post that the hearing will examine “New York’s rampant crime and victims of Alvin Bragg.”

Republicans have slammed Bragg as being soft on conventional crime while embracing a novel legal theory to bring the first-ever criminal case against an ex-president.

Maybe there wouldn’t be so many victims to talk about if DA Bragg was actually doing his job, putting violent offenders behind bars. The problem, as we’ve reported, is that Bragg has been hyper-focused on searching for even a grain of a crime to prosecute former President Donald Trump.

One witness, the mother of slain U.S. soldier Hason Correa (a husband and father to three young children) who was stabbed to death in Manhattan, gave emotional testimony, calling out the Manhattan DA for his treatment of her family after the tragedy, and rightly pointed the responsibility at Bragg’s office as well as city leadership.

As reported by Fox News:

A New York City mother testified that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office treated her and her family “like garbage” as she sought the prosecution of those responsible for the death of her son.

Madeline Brame appeared before the House Judiciary Committee’s field hearing in NYC on Monday, testifying about her son’s murder and the years-long court battle that followed. Brame blasted both Bragg’s handling of the case and the larger New York judicial system, saying millions of taxpayer dollars were being wasted even as crime spiked.

Bragg has left “all types of criminal elements free to do what they want, when they want, however they want, to whomever they want with no consequences–no deterrence,” Brame testified. “Millions and billions of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars are going to fund organizations that are doing absolutely nothing to deter this crime.”

We should all be as angry as Ms. Brame. The radical Left sees prosecuting criminals as the work of conservatives; therefore, they do the opposite and let crime run wild in major metropolitan areas. The police try to arrest violent criminals, but they’re not being locked up. And innocent Americans – even our courageous heroes – are being killed in the streets by criminals.

But it appears that DA Bragg is more interested in chasing Trump in an effort to bolster his own future political aspirations than he is in keeping his citizens safe. It’s an outrage. With all due respect, Mr. District Attorney, do your job. Get dangerous criminals off the street. Don’t enable them for political points.
