Hunter Biden refused to be deposed by Congress, even after being subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee. Instead, he held a press conference on Capitol Hill, slamming the GOP’s probe into his overseas business dealings. To make matters worse for the Biden family, the House has announced plans to formalize an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Fox News reports on the explosive press conference:

Hunter Biden arrived on Capitol Hill Wednesday, not to comply with his subpoena and be deposed at the House Oversight Committee, but to hold a press conference and again offer to testify publicly. He maintained that his father, President Biden “was not financially involved” in his business, and saying there is “no evidence because it did not happen.” . . .

The White House and President Biden have maintained that the president was “never in business” with his son. Biden has also said he never spoke to his son about his business dealings, but evidence--like email records and testimony from Hunter Biden’s former business partners--presented by House Republicans in their investigations seem to contradict those statements.

If I were representing Hunter Biden, I would recommend that he plead the Fifth Amendment. He can gain nothing from testifying before Congress after being criminally charged. He needs to keep his mouth shut.

Now let’s talk about the impeachment inquiry. The House is not meeting today to impeach President Biden. Rather, the House is voting on whether to formally open an impeachment inquiry which will give the congressional committees the power to subpoena people to testify even if they don’t want to. The only way to force people to testify is to launch a full impeachment inquiry – so the House is voting today on whether to authorize one. After this, an impeachment panel would be established.

My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, and I personally represented President Trump during his impeachment trial, so we have more experience in this area than anybody else. We aren’t fans of how common this impeachment process has become. Impeachment is supposed to be rare and extraordinary, but now it’s political and whimsical.

While on the floor of the U.S. Senate during Trump’s impeachment, my dad warned about the dangerous precedent being set by impeaching a President for presidential acts. Impeachment as a vehicle of disagreement is dangerous – the bar for impeachment cannot be set this low. As a result, you end up with a very partisan vote in impeaching the sitting President.

Is impeaching a President going to be the new norm for America? I don’t like the cheapening of the impeachment process.

I hope the Republicans in the House are very careful in how they proceed. Maybe they will just announce they are going to review the evidence and see where it leads.

Now on the state legislative front we’ve drafted a very important piece of legislation we are supporting through our sister organization, ACLJ Action. The PRAISE (Protecting Religious Assembly and States of Emergency) Act ensures that churches and other religious organizations don’t have their rights abused during a state of emergency.

ACLJ Action Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff Bob Burkett joined the show to explain this much-needed legislation:

We all remember, [during] COVID, unelected public health bureaucrats . . . abused their authorities to rescind basic freedoms because people felt unsafe. So you have places – California and Kansas come to mind – where there are secular businesses, including things like strip clubs, that were allowed to stay open while churches and other religious institutions were forced to close. So we just want to make sure that the other 28 states – in the event that there is a future public health state of emergency or some other state of emergency – are able to keep their churches open or maintain access to religious services.

Why should retail stores and strip clubs be allowed to stay open but churches be shut down? Churches are essential and should be granted the same freedom as secular businesses.

So far, 28 states don’t have protection for houses of worship. Check out the list right here. You’ll be shocked at even how many red states are on the list. We want our supporters to contact their legislators to encourage them to get the PRAISE Act passed in their state.

We are in the middle of our Faith and Freedom Year-End Drive to raise funds to fight back against government corruption and abuses of power. Donate today, and every dollar you give will be doubled.

Today’s Sekulow broadcast fully analyzed the potential fallout of Hunter’s legal woes and the likely impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen also joined the show to give an update on Israel.
