The commencement of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings began with extremely low expectations.
Of course, those expectations were exceeded because it took seconds for chaos to break out as Democrats - who have pledged to oppose the nominee - complained about documents they had not seen as part of a calculated effort to delay, stall and obstruct the confirmation process.
While Democrats have become increasingly desperate after thirteen left-wing groups told Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that he is failing to fight hard enough to keep Judge Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court, Senate Democrats continued their focus on documents or on mischaracterizing Judge Kavanaugh’s stellar judicial record.
Instead of focusing on the Constitution and Judge Kavanaugh’s 307 opinions from his work on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, it appears that a number of Senate Democrats have concentrated their efforts on their quest for face time as part of their pursuit for the Democratic nomination for President in 2020.
This amounts to an abject failure of the American people and fails to provide due process to a well-qualified conservative nominee.
Throughout this week of hearings, the Democrats continued to put on a theatrical show that is simply not ready for prime time. Their efforts included Sen. Cory Booker’s attempt to perform an “I am Spartacus” moment as he allegedly risked expulsion from the Senate by disclosing confidential emails to the public
In Sen. Booker’s case, reality is quite different from his largely fictional and largely fraudulent account of his bravery.
This is so because at the time the 4 emails in question were released to the public they had already been cleared for release by the Senate Judiciary committee and Bill Burck, former President Bush’s presidential records representative.
Indeed, at the time the documents were released Sen. Booker knew they were no longer confidential. So much for bravery.
In other words, Sen.Booker and his Democrat colleagues engaged in a performance that was all show and no cattle. Sen. Booker and a number of his colleagues, who interrupted the hearings 63 times during the first day, have exposed their efforts as nothing less than a charade.
The entire show was just that: a theatrical and hysterical performance in opposing the nomination of an extremely well-qualified judge.
This coordinated effort to stall Judge Kavanaugh’s nominations flies in the face of the evidence. While claiming that they either need more time to review documents or alternatively that they need more documents, the evidence shows such claims are empty. First, Senate Democrats have substantially ignored the fact that Judge Kavanaugh has provided more than 1 million documents.
A total that dwarfs the documents provided by prior nominees to the Supreme Court.
Second, the hearings demonstrated that they have either not read documents already provided them or they have manifested an inability to read them carefully as shown by Sen. Leahy’s dreadful performance in his failed attempt to impeach the nominee, Judge Kavanaugh.
Finally, Senate Democrats are prepared to leak alleged confidential information in a transparent attempt to embarrass the nominee.
Taken together, the approach by Senate Democrats shows that they fear that Judge Kavanaugh is a textualist who will accurately interpret the Constitution of the United States.
Equally true, this week’s performance by Senate Democrats shows that they actually fear the Constitution, its text, and its meaning. Rather than honor the Constitution and the rule of law, they prefer to honor their preferences and their political ambitions. This approach does a disservice to the Constitution and the Republic.
