Democrats Declare War on Conservative Media (Sekulow Recap)
The Democrats in Congress declare war on conservative media, specifically, conservative TV.
Today on Sekulow, we discussed two Democrat Congressmen sending a letter to the CEO’s of major cable providers asking if they will be deplatforming Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN.
We’ve seen social media platforms like Parler be deplatformed. Now members of Congress are taking aim at the major players on the conservative side of cable news. They’re going after Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN directly. They’re going directly to the cable providers.
Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and Congressman Jerry McNerney sent letters to top executives at AT&T, Verizon, Roku, Amazon, Apple, Comcast, Charter, Dish, Cox, Altice, Google parent Alphabet, and Hulu. Both of these members of Congress are from California and are on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Congresswoman Eshoo is also on the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
They asked these executives at the aforementioned providers seven questions. The final question was this:
Are you planning to continue carrying Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN on U-verse, DirecTV, and AT&T TV both now and beyond any contract renewal date? If so, why?
That’s not just asking if they’ll be renewing the contracts. It feels like strong-arming. By the way, that would be a business discussion between the networks and the provider. It is an economic decision for the most part based on ratings and revenue. The two Representatives went way beyond that and asked if they were going to stop carrying them now, in essence asking if they were going to cancel them. If not, then they want an explanation as to why they aren’t going to stop carrying them.
They want these cable providers to take off Fox News, Newsmax, and OAN from the airwaves so that you cannot access them through your cable or streaming service. They are trying to pressure these providers to do their own dirty work for them. They don’t want them making an economic decision. They want them to make a decision based on political pressure.
This is extremely troubling, trying to silence an entire viewpoint. There’s a difference between these three networks, Newsmax, Fox News, and OAN. There’s a broad spectrum of viewpoints and styles that are aired on those three networks. To try and lump them in together is if they are one voice is rather shortsighted and lazy.
What they are trying to do is take out any and all conservative or conservative leaning voices. It is censorship. They’re pushing toward state controlled media so that they can take away your choice. That is the tactic of a totalitarian regime.
