Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib Pushes Antisemitism at Democrat Socialists Convention
Representative Rashida Tlaib is once again making antisemitic remarks – this time at the online Democratic Socialists of America Convention. It doesn’t stop there though. Along with seven other far-Left Members of Congress, she has written a demand letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to revoke tax-exempt status from pro-Israel organizations.
Rep. Tlaib addressed the Democrat Socialists as a keynote speaker. She took her time to speak during the video conference as an opportunity to make more antisemitic comments like:
I know that you all understand the structure that we’ve been living under right now is designed by those that exploit the rest of us for their own profit. I don’t care if it’s the issue around global human rights and our fight to free Palestine or to pushing back against those that don’t believe in the minimum wage or those that believe that people have a right to health care and so much more.
She went on:
And I tell people those same people that if you open the curtain and look behind the curtain, it’s the same people that make money and, yes they do, off of racism, off of these broken policies. There is someone there making money and you saw it . . . .
ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison summed up what Rep. Tlaib remarks mean for every American:
Every American ought to take seriously what [Rep.] Tlaib is advocating. Her approach is plain and simple – bigotry. Tlaib and her socialist comrades have taken it up a notch by sending a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen. She is targeting the tax-exempt status of pro-Israel groups just like Lois Lerner targeted tea party groups and conservative groups in the past. The ACLJ fought Lois Lerner and the IRS and we won. And I think we need to be prepared to fight on this terrain again. No one should sleep on what Rashida Tlaib has said. We should all be activated and energized, and we should respond vigorously.
Congresswoman Tlaib tweeted this part of the letter that her and her colleagues sent to Secretary Yellen to cite why these organizations should not be allowed tax-exempt status:
Tax-exempt nonprofit status allows US-based 501 (c)(3) entities and their U.S.-based donors to receive an effective subsidy from the U.S. government to support serious breaches of international law and violations of internationally recognized human rights related to the expansion of the illegal Israeli settlement enterprise.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has already started to try and revoke tax-exempt status for organizations who support a relationship between the U.S. and Israel. As we told you, the IRS went after an organization called Christians Engaged and initially refused their tax-exempt status. One of the reasons the IRS listed in the letter was:
You educate Christians in areas where they can be instrumental as in the areas of the sanctity of life, the definition of marriage, biblical justice, laws vs. lawlessness, freedom of speech, religious liberty . . . and U.S. and Israel relations.
Fortunately, this decision was overturned immediately. But clearly, the fight is not over as seven Members of Congress are calling for more of this behavior. We’ve already sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the IRS over this. And we are drafting a legal brief to Secretary Yellen immediately to make sure no conservatives or Christians will be targeted again. We will challenge every single one of the statements made in the letter by Rep. Tlaib and her comrades to fight against antisemitism and not allow the IRS to be used as a political weapon once again. We won’t hesitate to go to court if necessary.
