Biden Parties, Americans Suffer

You may have heard the old expression, Nero fiddled while Rome burned. While we’ll never know if the Roman emperor really just played music while a great fire engulfed the famous city, the point of the saying is that he was ineffectual and behaved foolishly and inappropriately in a time of great crisis and suffering for his people.

It’s hard to say it doesn’t sound familiar. Yesterday the economy took another huge hit after news that inflation had gotten even worse, and what did President Biden do to reassure the American people that he was on the job? He sipped champagne with elite guests on the White House lawn. No fiddle of course, but President Biden did hire a music icon to provide the entertainment.

Talk about a slap in the face of working Americans at a time like this.

President Biden claimed it was a celebration for the signing of the Inflation Reduction Act, which to date has reduced nothing other than what remains of the President’s credibility. Meanwhile, the stock market took a 1,300-point dive which is, to say the least, significant. The market reacted negatively to the release of the latest inflation figures, which as one would expect were also not optimistic.

Many Americans are struggling right now. They’re truly terrified about the future. And when they looked to the leader of our country, what was he doing? Having a party, enjoying an elite private concert with singer James Taylor, celebrating some made-up victory.

And for what it’s worth, I am a fan of James Taylor’s music, but the irony of him singing Fire and Rain – a song about tragedy and loss – at a Biden “victory” party is not lost on me.

As I said on the broadcast, I would love to hear from ACLJ members on how this inflation and the current economic conditions are affecting their ability to pay the bills, get to work, and feed their families. I wonder how it felt watching those compassionate progressives, and so-called democratic socialists, having such a great time?

It certainly didn’t give me hope that the Biden Administration has its finger on the pulse of the country right now, I can tell you that. And he clearly doesn’t have a real solution for these problems.

ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Policy and former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo joined me and said the Biden Administration may be in for a rude awakening soon because people are hurting and they see through his distortion:

It was really quite something to watch the split-screen yesterday with the stock market falling, people’s 401k’s tanking, and James Taylor singing Fire and Rain. It was all one could take. The reality is last night for example I was in Chicago, I was in Illinois, I was out with a bunch of folks. They can all feel this.

You can hold all the parties at the White House. You can tell all the stories that you want. But in the end, they know that the decision that the Biden Administration has made, the decisions on energy, the decisions on banking, on regulation, on farmers and agriculture, all the things, combined is President Biden’s highest priority, he said his absolute highest priority is inflation, and it is destroying the lives of ordinary Americans all across the country.

And it’s true, that this President is completely out of touch with what his Administration is doing to the American people. His inept policies are literally destroying lives. Families are barely staying afloat.

This is why I’m constantly saying elections have consequences. But despite the baffling display from our current leader, I remain hopeful for the future. A sentiment Sec. Pompeo echoed in his own words when I asked if he saw a way out of this mess:

Not only is there a way out, we’re going to find the way out. We’re going to start in November to push back against these policies. I’m convinced of it. The rascals who delivered these bad outcomes for American families are going to get tossed on their ear in November, I am convinced of it.

This isn’t politics, this is about people's lives. This is about America. This is a country worth fighting for. We’ve been through difficult challenges in our nation before, even in recent history. We always get it right, I am confident of that. Not because of folks in Washington D.C. or capitals in places like Topeka or Albany, but because the American people demanded we get it right and in our churches, our PTA groups, our little places, America gets it right.

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes further in-depth discussion of the President's celebration yesterday in the wake of more awful economic news for the country. We also paid tribute to my friend, personally and professionally, former Solicitor General of the United States, Ken Starr who passed away yesterday. Ken was one of the nicest people I’ve known and he was a true scholar with an unquestionable understanding of the law, and had a tremendous impact on other lawyers. Ken was a respected colleague of mine and he will be greatly missed. On behalf of the entire ACLJ, I send our prayers and condolences to his family.
